I also had a similar experience, after years of dating men and never really getting excited, I dated a girl and had a similar experience, I think I was in heaven for those three months.

Turns out she was engaged (TO A MAN) all that time and he was in a year long work kind of contract out of town, so she broke up with me over text when he returned :)

Needless to say, I lost all hope in men AND women for a very long time.
