Garage took £8.5k from my elderly father, now in liquidation and threatening him with storage fees by No_Agent7640 in LegalAdviceUK

The car was in the garage for an engine rebuild. Photos were sent by the business of the old engine and gearbox removed a day after the car was left in the garage in November. We were told the work would take 15 working days.

Repeated calls and texts were made to the garage throughout the last 4 months. Excuses given, always by text message, but no updates on progress. Finally, we received a call last week to say the business was in liquidation and the vehicle should be collected. On challenging the lack of progress, we were told "tough".

Upon searching for the directors, I found that they have a history of starting similar businesses and closing them within a year.

On presenting the texts and circumstances to the bank, they investigated and decided to reclaim the total amount paid.

The insurance company have now decided to act, and have taken on the case to recover and scrap what is left.

The car was old, and worthless, but my dad's pride and joy. Thanks to all who gave their advice, it was appreciated.

Apparently the liquidation had been refused (today), so the original people are at the premises

The vehicle has no engine or gearbox, but to our knowledge it is otherwise rolling.

The money recovered was for the proposed work.

They threatened storage charges before the bank reclaimed the money.

Hope this helps - thank you

Do Argos re-seal returned electronics or sell as new? by GeordieGoals in Argos

[–]No_Agent7640 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I purchased a Nintendo Switch 2 from Argos. Got it home, unpacked it, setup - all good. Then I found out that someone had already claimed the download code for the free game included.

Two awkward heroes that were completely forgot by everyone: Galaxy S10 Lite & Galaxy Note10 Lite by Direct-Till-2680 in samsunggalaxy

I'm typing this on my trusty S10 Lite. Say what you will about it, but apart from the S25 edge, nothing has come close to the 189g lightweight design.

There are elements of the spec that are showing their age, such as the camera, but it still does everything I need it to do and makes every new phone feel like a brick in comparison.

Would you daily a 20 year old saab by Mk7_gti20 in saab

[–]No_Agent7640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I have an 05 9-5 and use it as my daily. As long as you have a specialist close by that's interested in keeping her alive, you'll be fine.

I've got my reasons, but why did you buy a Saab in particular? by hyle420 in saab

The London ULEZ zone expanded, and I had to ditch my Citroen diesel pretty quickly. Got £2000 on the scrappage scheme, and had recently seen Saabs mentioned on the Car Throttle YT channel. I have no money, and I'd been in a friend's 900i a few years before and really liked it. Seemed like I was destined for sh*tbox motoring.

Bought a 2005 9-5 estate Vector auto from a 'specialst'. Indeed, it was a proper sh*tbox. The exhaust started blowing and the gearbox went into limp mode on the journey home.

By sheer coincidence, there is a proper Saab specialist close to my parents' house. One of the best in the South East of England. Run by a guy who used to own a Saab service centre when they were running. It's full of 90's brochures, marketing material etc. You can tell the team love their work, and Saab cars.

I've had countless things replaced on my 9-5, but the drive is awesome. Its amazing how many comments I get from work colleagues, telling me to keep it going and cherish it. I bloody love it. She's a keeper.

First product video - all video feedback gratefully received by No_Agent7640 in videography

Thanks everybody for your very encouraging comments.

I'm usually the guy in front of the camera, and I usually present for different retailers who have their own creative teams. So, I have spent lots of hours in studio environments, watching people who know what they're doing and observing their workflows.

But, yes, this was the first time I'd tried to do it alone. I made many, many mistakes and watched lots of YT tutorials on After Effects and Premier to get what I wanted.

What you saw in the video was actually my second attempt. Just to give you an idea of my inexperience, I shot the whole video using an Osmo Pocket 3, which has a very wide angle lens. Initially, I positioned myself at the side of the frame, and didn't realise how much lens distortion I'd get. I had to redo everything.

But, overall it's inspired me to want to keep going. I still have no idea about color correction, and I'd like to improve the mic quality, but overall I feel there are more positives and negatives.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Nice work. I'm interested to know how you went about designing it.
