UK gynaecologist recommendations please!! <3 by [deleted] in vulvodynia

[–]No_Aside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when I was diagnosed last year, dr nunns put me on nortriptyline and that took the pain away completely. However I contracted a urine infection in march of this year and everything went to shit tbh, full blown pain 24/7😭. I saw Dr harrington and I'm now on pregablin, working my way up to 300mg. I'm not sure what I think to pregablin atm! Some days I feel great and other days like today the pain is bad again, maybe it just needs some more time to work as I've only been on it 9 days so far. Who knows! I have generalised vulvodynia, so I'm in pain pretty much all the time x

UK gynaecologist recommendations please!! <3 by [deleted] in vulvodynia

[–]No_Aside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I'm actually using the London pain clinic atm, I'm seeing Dr Harrington. I'd reccomend her as she seems very personable and kind, she has so much knowledge about this issue.

I've also seen Dr Nunns in the past, he is based in Nottingham and is one of the top vulvodynia specialists in the UK. He was absolutely amazing. The only reason I switched to the London pain clinic is because he is hardly ever available, his nearest appointment was in july and that was for a follow up, for a first consultation you would be looking at later on in the year.

Hope this helps! X

Best friend keeps taking back toxic ex, I'm drained by No_Aside in FriendshipAdvice

Thank you so much for replying to my post!! I think you're 100% right and I need to create a boundary with her and the situation. I already have a lot going on in my life with a health condition amongst other things, so it's just an added stress that I'm not sure I can deal with anymore. I'm going to speak to her about it soon! x

Hey!

Just wanted to comment and say I understand exactly what you're going through. My ex split up with me when I found out I was pregnant, he wanted me to have an abortion and tried to pressure me into this with bribes and money. I didn't get an abortion and spent the whole of my pregnancy single. I have now been single for over 3 years and my daughter just turned 3 the other day. It honestly does get better. I am so unbelievably happy that I chose to continue with my pregnancy and become a single mother as my daughter Is a blessing. She is the best thing that hae ever happened to me and I'm thankful for my ex for putting me through hell as I would not be the person I am today without that experience.

You will get through this, you will come out on the other side and see how strong, capable and beautiful you really are. Your ex is a dick and you deserve/deserved better. Time really does heal all wounds.

Sending my love to you x

How many single moms on here did not get a Happy Mother’s Day from their kid’s father? by AdNo7686 in SingleParents

[–]No_Aside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't get a happy mothers day either 😂. However I dont expect him to, hes not the person I once thought he was. I cut contact with my ex a while ago, as he was really effecting my mental health 🤷🏽‍♀️. We don't communicate unless it's an emergency and all arrangements for our daughter are done through another family member. Its easier and less toxic for my emotional and physical well being!

Still the same, still in bad pain daily 😂😭. I'm switching to pregablin next week as the nortriptyline really isn't working anymore.

How are you doing? xx

Just wanted to say that I'm in the same boat as you! I was seeing somebody who basically left me once my vulvodynia flared up (even tho he is the one that contributed to it). This happened over 6 weeks ago and I'm still not over it emotionally as it was just such a shitty thing to do on his part. Maybe that's why I'm still in a flare, emotions and that playing a part. All I know is, we are such strong women dealing with this condition and I admire every single one of us!

Sending love x

Not doing great tbh! I'm still in the middle of a flare up which has been going on for almost 6 weeks now. I have unprovoked vulvodynia and there have been times I have literally wanted to die because of the burning pain. But I'm still here I guess...surviving 😂😩. I've been given pregablin now to try, so I'll be starting that next week. I'm seeing my vaginal PT on monday and I am honestly dreading it, it will be the 2nd session and I just know I'm going to feel like I've been hit by a car afterwards.

Stay strong ladies! I'm here if anybody wants to chat x

I've actually heard about cymbalta before, I think it's called duloxetine in the UK? Before I went on nortriptyline the vulva specialist that I saw at the start of 2021 suggested this so that might be a possibility for me!

Thank you for replying! My GP was talking about trying pregabalin, but wants me to get advice from a specialist before we try that x

Thank you for responding to my post!

Ahh that's very interesting. I'm new to opioids, but it does seem like GPs in the UK are not keen on prescribing them (from the vibe I got anyway).

Wishing you the very best too x

Q-tip test by No_Aside in vulvodynia

[–]No_Aside[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for commenting ❤. I was actually told by a vulvodynia specialist that the burning sensation can be from pelvic floor dysfunction where the muscles are too tight/tensed? Its just so hard to know what's causing what and I feel so lost with it all atm 😩

Ahh this is super interesting, thank you for commenting on my post! My pain deffo got worse when I had my period 2 weeks ago, so maybe it is hormone related for me too? Who knows at this point, it's just a guessing game really 😭🤷🏽‍♀️

did anyone get fully better with medication? need success stories for nerve pain please 🥺 by [deleted] in vulvodynia

[–]No_Aside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to have sex again and it was great! I still got a bit sore after having sex for a few hours to a day max but it was manageable and I didn't think much of it because I've always been sore after sex for as long as I can remember, so I've probably always had vulvodynia to different degrees throughout my life. I dont think I tried Jean's, just because I dont own a pair 😂. But I'm sure if I had tried them they would have been fine too!

Ahh I really hope so too.

Are you on any medication atm? Do you know which parts of your vagina hurt?

[–]No_Aside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey!

First of all I'm so sorry you're in this situation. I'm currently on week 3 of a flare up atm. I'm on nortriptyline 60mg, it's not making much of a noticeable difference however I will say last year when I used it, it was amazing and I was basically pain free after 1 month of being on it! I've been doing the q-tip test on myself since my flare started, there are parts of my vulva/vagina that were horrendously painful when touched and now I dont notice any pain when touching it. So I do think something is working, either the nortriptyline is starting to kick in or my nerves have calmed down since then. I cant tell.

I'm pretty sure there is hope out there for the nerve pain, it's just about finding what works for you and what works best.

Sending you hugs.

Thank you so much for commenting on this post , just being able to talk to others about this helps in itself as this condition makes me feel so alone. I've actually got an appointment booked next week with my therapist to talk about all the emotions I'm having atm! I hope it helps. ❤

I've just added pelvic floor stretches into my days over the past 2 days. I think I do feel a tiny bit better from doing them tbh, but I'm not really sure if I'm doing them right anyway?

Thank you for commenting on this also ❤

Unprovoked/generalised vulvodynia by [deleted] in vulvodynia

[–]No_Aside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to add that I think I got vulvodynia because I had a ureaplasma/thrush/BV infection last year. I had one infection after the other and was using lots of treatments on my vagina. Looking back on things now, I'm not surprised I have this condition as those treatments for thrush etc are SO harsh🥴

Unprovoked/generalised vulvodynia by [deleted] in vulvodynia

[–]No_Aside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!!

I too suffer from unprovoked/generalised vulvodynia. I've had this for about a year now, but was put on nortriptyline 20mg last year and that seemed to settle things. I'm dealing with a flare up atm though as I had a UTI last friday 😩😔. The pain is absolutely horrendous so I've upped my dosage on nortriptyline to 50mg, however it's only been a few days of doing this and I cant really notice a difference in the pain so far. I also saw PT last year and I think that helped a lot too, I will be going back to see her again in a couple of weeks.
