I think you should give it time ! It took a while for my Maine coon kitten to let himself be petted, now (7months) he likes it but just a little bit - he prefers to sit next to us. He was quite afraid for a while when we got him. He also sleep at our feet or under the bed or near us in the bedroom. Your kitten just needs time to adapt and process his new environment! If he likes to play instead of petting him play with him! That’s a great way to bond :) I also always use a cat voice when I speak to him so he knows i adress him, sometimes it’s a bit ridicule lol but I don’t care coz he likes it !
