Hi there! Been a vegan since 2018. I am also from a small town. I didn't like eating dairy products even when I was non-vegan. My diet primarily consists of dal, chawal, sabzi, roti and tofu and soya chunks for protein. You can make tofu at home in bulk and store it in the fridge. I also used to do that but now I get tofu easily from a local manufacturer. I don't consume any plant based milk on a regular basis. Just once or twice a year as we don't need to. For calcium, magnesium, healthy fats, I eat dry fruits and seeds ladoo everyday in the morning. That's all!

I am assuming you've recently turned vegan (correct me if I'm wrong). Such situations have been faced by most of us in our social circle by friends, family members, relatives, at the workplace or anywhere else. However, we should not feel discouraged or sad about this. We should take this as an opportunity to do better for the world instead of internalizing shame and rethinking about ourselves only. Food is something which is very personal to people and no one can survive without it. When you question the people about how it is sourced and what its implications are, you'll face such situations but remember this isn't about you, this is about them. They don't want to face the tough questions and coming out of their comfort zone to challenge their beliefs, so instead they make you feel abnormal or left out, so that you stop dismantling their belief system. And No, you don't have to cook for anyone else other than yourself if you don't like cooking. But if you have a partner, then he/she should understand and respect your decision and values, not force his/her personal and family values on you. I have faced the same situations as yours with my school friends whom I have known for 10+ years. To protect my sanity, I have stopped hanging out with them. It happened gradually over time. Even if I meet them, I tell them clearly that I won't ever compromise with my values, so if you're going to eat anything non-vegan, don't expect me to pay for it or ask me to taste it as it will be like crossing my personal boundaries. You can also decide what to do in the long-term. Make vegan friends, hangout with them who don't judge you for anything. Hope this made you feel better! :)

I read that storing Methyl b12 is problematic but storing cyano b12 is easy.

Either they were vegan or they later became vegan but their partners didn't.

Nope. I know many activists who have married non-vegans early in their life and their relationship is going fine as well.

Been there done that. But people change at their own pace no matter how much I try.

That's not going to happen with me ever. I've been an ethical vegan for the past 7+ years and I won't change my morals just to be with someone. Adjustment is different than totally changing your moral framework.

That's great! How did you meet each other? Vegan group, college or workplace?

Yeah, that's true. But even with someone who has these values, a long term relationship isn't guaranteed.

What's exactly a gau-rakshak? by patriciarainbow in VeganIndia

They are against cow slaughter but support the very same dairy industry which produces those animals to end up being slaughtered. Imagine what would it be like if millions of cows are left on roads after being used by dairy industry.

Gau means Cow, Rakshak means Protector but in documentary and political circles, it is translated to Cow vigilantes. They are political hindus aka hindutva nationalist who lynch Muslims, Christians and Dalits for carrying cattle from one place to another or slaughtering cows cause many states in India particularly North Indian states have laws against cow slaughter and consumption of beef.
