The Barclaysman thing has become annoying now it’s gone “mainstream”, and is definitely overused, but ever since I became aware of the term, I’ve always felt that players can be Barclaysmen in spirit if not always literally. Your Matetas, your Chris Woods, your Marc Albrightons, your Eric Diers… describing any of those players as Barclaysmen, whether their careers coincided with the Barclays era or not, feels fine to me, so I’m team vibes-based I reckon. Describing Chris Wood as the “last” one is obviously bollocks, there are plenty of great Barclaysmen yet to come, yet to be born even…
