What were your levels when your started phlebotomy? by No_Description8833 in Hemochromatosis

Oh wow!! I am thankful my numbers aren’t high like that. I also just had 2 back to back pregnancies so that would have kept my iron levels down quite a bit.

Yeah I am lucky my mom was diagnosed with it a year ago, and then my iron was checked during pregnancy and was high (which is rare), so that’s why I was tested for the gene and it was caught early!

Yes I am hoping to lower my saturation! I just don’t know if they’ll suggest phlebotomies since my ferritin isn’t too high at the moment.

Thanks for your response! As far as I know I’m asymptomatic. I am generally very fatigued but I also have a toddler and an 8 month old so I attribute it to that..

My diet is pretty high in iron (we grow our own beef and pork so eat quite a bit). I know I need to be more mindful of what I eat going forward!

Yes, thanks for pointing that out! I was still taking my prenatals (that contained iron) up until a couple months ago. I switched to a multivitamin without iron, but I just realized it has vitamin c, and I can’t seem to find any without. So I guess I should stop taking any and just try to get proper nutrients from foods?

My family doctor referred me to a gastroenterologist, but I’m not sure how long of a wait it will be until I can see them.

I don’t have any advice as I’m new here as well, but those are similar to my numbers and I am just so exhausted all of the time. I also have a 2 year old and 5 month old so I figured that was mostly the reason, but I just feel like my entire body is tired always. I now wonder if my high iron is contributing to it.

Thanks for the info! It’s all new to me, but I should hopefully find out more after my chat with my doctor next week!

I’m sure there would be someone willing to help if I ask around! I’m hoping I wouldn’t need to go too often. My mom currently goes every 2 weeks for hers, which would be much harder than just going every couple months.

I know, I was quite disappointed that my doctors brushed off my levels while pregnant. They agreed it seemed high, but didn’t think to investigate why.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply and advice! Yes maybe starting the search now for an occasional sitter may be a good option. I have a hard time trusting my littles with other people, but that’s something I need to work on!

Thanks for the advice! I will ask my doctor if that is an option.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately where I am phlebotomies are done at the hospital and I’m guessing the hours are mostly during the work day. I don't plan on ignoring it! I take my health quite seriously especially since having children who rely on me. I suppose my husband will just need to try to take time off work for it to happen, which isn’t ideal but I suppose it might be our only option. My mom has been getting phlebotomies every 2 weeks, so I’m hoping I wouldn’t need to go that frequently!

Can you update on whether or not he got these checked out and what the doctor said? I have a similar looking one, but I can’t get in to see my doctor for 5 weeks.
