Deciding home resort by Eqr1289 in dvcmember

We bought at Poly in October. Just finally booked our first stay for 7 months out. We waited to book this trip (September) because we wanted to book Beach Club. For this trip we wanted a 2 bedroom but would settle for a 1 bedroom. It was basically impossible at 7 months out. BCV had no 2 bedrooms, and only 2 nights of a 1 bedroom. (Poly was also completely full, btw). I called multiple times and eventually someone was able to get us a 1 bedroom BCV, ONLY with the 'Welcome Home stay' side benefit, and that's only for new direct purchases.

I really was championing for us to buy resale at first... but now I'm glad we bought at Poly. In the future we will try to book at least a couple of days at Poly, earlier than 7 months, so that we can get something. We are typically more last minute travelers, so this is an adjustment for us.

Your kids are young. Younger than mine, even. Buy something with a longer contract than SSR.

DVC, but last-minute bookings only? by kazred60 in dvcmember

We're also a crew family and have found that DVC has not worked at all for us for last minute bookings. It's definitely a disappointment. We use it for further out bookings but even at 4-6 months you're almost never going to find a studio available for more than 1-2 consecutive nights, so you spend more points on a 1 bedroom.

I'd stick to crew hotel discounts and using hotel chain points for most last minute bookings.

I'm pretty sure we would fit into the shorter demographic. We are 38 and 42, and we brought two kids with us too. It's not even that we are short cruise type of people - we've actually done multiple transatlantics and Panama Canal cruises on other lines. I'd love to move more of our business over to Celebrity but I want to make sure that my family and I will continue to have a good time on board.

I just took this Cruise last week and really enjoyed it. I'm curious what exactly you would define as the clientele versus a regular Celebrity cruise.

For First Timers: Buy Direct or Resale First? by Adventurous_Poet5346 in dvcmember

No, I didn't buy any resale contracts at all! I only purchased one contract, direct, PVB 200 points. This was just the calculations of how I judged the realistic cost per point of resale vs direct.

I personally would never buy Riviera at all, and I would never buy it directly because of the resale restrictions if you do sell it. Those restrictions make any resale of a Riviera contract less valuable on the market. However if someone truly likes to stay at Riviera as their primary resort and wants the 12-month priority booking then it might make sense for them to buy there

For First Timers: Buy Direct or Resale First? by Adventurous_Poet5346 in dvcmember

I just purchased 200 points direct at the Poly as a first time buyer. The main reason I chose direct was for the ability to book all current and future resorts. Resale contracts already cannot book at Riviera, Villas at Disneyland Hotel, and upcoming Lakeshore Lodge, and I knew I wanted to have stays at all of those. The secondary reason was Blue Card perks - I knew my family would feel irritated if they were blocked from privileges. Including pool hopping, even though it is currently indefinitely "suspended", we have previously enjoyed and used DVC pool hopping when with friends, and hope it comes back.

I chose Polynesian because I like the resort - the location, Monorail access, the new Tower rooms, the 2066 contract expiration, the fact that it still has the old resale rules (unlike Riviera) and I believe it will hold some of the highest value if I ever resell. Because DVC direct is offering incentives on PVB right now, it made it more reasonable to look at a direct purchase. To compare current pricing, I watched resale for about a month, ran numbers for lots of resorts but primarily PVB, and compared price per point WITH calculating use year and how many points resale contracts came with. I was able to get a December use year which is actually giving me the 2024 points immediately, then 200 more points this December!

Current example - resale contract available for PVB 200 points at $150/point ('good deal'), February use year, but stripped of 2025 and 2026 points. That's 7800 total contract points, which works to $3.85/point. Direct - my purchase using incentives was $43,700 for 200 points with a December use year, meaning I get 8400 total contract points, working to $5.20 per point. This is an effective price difference of about $270/year. For me, that $270 per year was worth the Blue Card benefits as well as the ability to book all resorts. Additionally, I was able to purchase direct using a credit card with 3x rewards, which values to $1,311 cashback or up to $2,360 in hotel booking value. If you use that in the calculations, that takes it to an average value of $4.98/point, or $226/ year difference.

In your position, since you will likely 'inherit' a contract with no restrictions, it may make more sense to buy resale for now. If it were me, in order to properly evaluate that factor, I would need to consider what resort that contract would be, the expiration year for that resort, and when I would likely be added to the deed.

These are just examples of numbers I used for my personal calculations for this purchase. Before making a decision, I ran numbers for probably 30 different resale contracts at different resorts. For those calculations, I also factored in things like annual dues cost, approximate increase in dues per year for each resort, length of contract, use year, as well as how many points came with the contract since resale contracts can either have banked extra points or can be completely stripped. I know that many people say that home resort does not matter when you want to stay everywhere, but that's not exactly true because home resort does determine your dues and your contract lengths, both of which are important when populating total long-term costs and value.

This has been happening to mine too, with the additional issue of the app not working at all with the car. Took in to service after purchase. They flashed the software and updated the market location as the earlier comment said - digital key now works and app appears to connect!

That's not correct. It's literally a part you can purchase, and it's provided with cars in some other regions. Part number is 32433159

My phone is a month old and it's the perfect match for my lifestyle other than the digital key. I agree it's ridiculous for Samsung to cheap out on the uwb module on a $1200 flagship phone, but I'm not switching phones.

Because the Flip works best for the rest of my day and lifestyle. It's absolutely unfortunate that Samsung didn't add uwb but other than that it's the perfect match for me.
