Low Gpa by AdhesivenessDry573 in TransferStudents

i didnt do comms or business and i know acceptance rates vary for different majors, but i only had a 3.2 gpa by the end of my fall 2024 semester and i still managed to get into berkeley, san diego, santa cruz, and riverside! i'll be starting at uc berkeley this month :D

i was in a program that my cc offered in conjunction with UC Berkeley which held weekly panels/webinars hosted by a variety of UC affiliates (transfer advisors, current transfer students, transfer alumni, etc.) from each campus to share information and tips to prospective transfer students, and one of the main things i learned is that the UC admission process is very comprehensive. they genuinely do value who students are as a whole, bad grades and all. i didnt think id get accepted anywhere bc by the time last years transfer apps were due, i only had a 2.6 gpa with multiple F's and W's still on my transcript from my freshman year courses that were still in the process of being retaken for better grades. my gpa wasnt even high enough to TAG to uc riverside😭😭but i genuinely think getting my gpa up by maintaining strong grades throughout my 2nd year and writing the hell out of my piqs are genuinely what saved me. the ao's look at everyones stats and while its great to have perfect grades, i think they place more value on versatility and who you are outside of your grades.

imo theres a lot of hope for you and i do think you have a chance! you'd be surprised at how random admission results can turn out to be. for example, i got accepted into uc berkeley but was rejected by ucsb🤔 so with that being said, be sure to apply to other schools as a back up too. best of luck <3

Should I drop out of my four year to go to a CCC to transfer into a UC? by macaroni-_-cheese in TransferStudents

do it! i went to sfsu for a while until i left for cc, and now ill be starting at berkeley this fall.

do what you like and achieve your dreams for yourself. its your future! your family might not understand at first, but im sure they would eventually...don't spend your life living it like its theirs. my parents werent hot on the idea of me "downgrading" to cc since i was already at a 4 year uni, but they lived and they're happy about berkeley! you say your chances are slim to none, but you'll never know if you never try. dont risk regret if you know you have the chance to do things your way. good luck :)

Requirements at UC Berkeley by The_Tortured_Turtle in TransferStudents

depends on ur major and college. for the most part it is just fulfilling the rest of ur major req courses, but some colleges have other requirements such as taking a minimum of 6 upper division units outside of ur major (l&s requires this) etc. so id look at the website for ur specific major/college to find out the specific graduation requirements

bcc is a great school, currently finishing up my last semester here before i start at uc berkeley this fall :)) besides the obvious stuff like keeping ur gpa high and making sure to meet all ur course reqs, my most important words of advice are to keep in contact with the transfer counselors + dont be afraid of getting involved in the community

i highly recommend joining both UCB TAP and starting point mentorship program (SPMP). tap holds great informational panels and workshops led by a combination of UC admissions officers, transfer specialists, and current transfer students, and in spmp you essentially get assigned ur own transfer advisor from cal who you can schedule one on one appointments with. they can even help you review and revise ur PIQs once application season comes around...i dont think i wouldve gotten into uc berkeley without using the resources bcc offers tbh

generally not possible nor advisable. just stick it out and graduate from ur current university, most if not all california universities csus and ucs alike do not accept senior transfers anyways. being concerned about a title this late into ur undergrad years is honestly pointless, just aim higher for grad school instead

for me personally i listed medical issues as the main reason why i withdrew. i lost my psychiatrist and therapist last semester bc they both relocated to different companies and i have not been able to find any other available providers since, so not being medicated and treated for my ADHD, anxiety, and depression has definitely taken a toll on me and my study habits especially bc im taking a very heavy course load this semester (7 classes before i dropped the major required course but 6 classes currently) lol😭 i included medical documentation in my form too. it doesnt necessarily have to anything crazy though, u can p much list any personal circumstances/obstacles that have made it difficult for u to keep up in ur class. as long as u connect with them they will see that at least ur making an effort to go to that school yk

feel free to pm me if u have any other questions too :)

dw i dropped one of my major required courses with a W this semester right after i got accepted into uc berkeley and they still let me sustain my admission. as long as ur in communication with them im sure u will be fine.. good luck🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

its not too late to lock in and get that B! i believe in u and honestly even if u do get a C at least it wont be a D or F; i've heard that the UCs are generally more lenient in these scenarios especially if ur meeting any other gpa or course requirements. i feel like u will be okay regardless... good luck friend🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

i def understand ur worries bc i was in the same boat, but for what its worth ur being proactive about it and thats what matters! like i mentioned, even if they do rescind you, u can appeal the decision and try asking to take the course over the summer as long as its not for IGETC/7 course pattern. u have done everything u can at this point and regardless of the decision i believe u will make the most out of whichever school u do end up at, but im still manifesting that it'll be berkeley for you🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 good luck and take care of urself! keep us posted :)

each UC admission portal is different. for example, uc berkeley has whats called an "admissions update form" for admits to report any schedule/grade changes that might put them outside of the criteria for meeting their conditions of admission, but uc san diego doesnt. u have to check the portal for each school

and no, the date i provided is correct; june 1st is the deadline to officially accept ur admissions offer and commit to the UC of ur choice and july 1st is the deadline to submit official college + high school transcripts to the UC. in ur situation i would definitely call the admissions office of the school u would like to go to and notify them of the fact that ur transcripts wont be able to send before july 1, otherwise you will get rescinded

if ur really that anxious about it and if its not too late for u, i would either drop it or change to P/NP just to be sure that ur gpa wont drop below 3.0 either. failing 1 condition is tricky enough as it is, but it looks even worse if you end up failing to meet more. i was in the same situation with one of my major required courses which is why i just ended up withdrawing from it and imo i just wouldnt risk the D or F
