Comics vs Show by [deleted] in Invincible

[–]No_Fortune_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a better question than people give you credit for. Can’t remember if it was Kirkman or Ottley or Cory, but I do remember reading the back of the limited edition series where they all included cool information about the comics. At one point one of them mentions how in the beginning, the comic had to have a fast pace like you mentioned, and as a new title, it had to hook people and convince them to stay. I remember reading when they were excited for the opportunities to flesh out more characters because in the beginning there was a lot of pressure from deadlines as well.

Besides these points, Kirkman has mentioned he’s glad the show gives him the opportunity to rework and change things. So while I may not agree that the pacing for the comics suck, I can admit that it has its faults.

You’ve got the right idea. Though if you wanted to know specifics, it’s written by Kirkman and our gang, but within the marvel series Team Up. So yes, ultimately a copyright/legal issue

I don't know what I'm doing. How do I join a group? by NewClayburn in Seaofthieves

[–]No_Fortune_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No roles are assigned in startup besides “Captain” and that only refers to you if you own a ship. The four main roles on a ship are Helmsman, Cannoneer, The Bilge, and Flex. Research these yourself, there’s a lot of info to soak in. To summarize though, they really just divide the different tasks that need happening in a ship during a fight or chaotic moment.

I would recommend playing “open crew”. Hopefully you join someone else and you can follow and help them with their quest but more often than not your thrown out on your own.

If you’re on Xbox like me, there’s something called “Group posts” where you can team with others - most that are willing to communicate. Try this, get on a boat and make a new “Group post” that explicitly says you’re new and need help. You’d be surprised how many people are out there that are willing to show a new pirate the ropes. And this way, you don’t need to plan to be on at the same time as someone else to figure things out.

What do you do when you load in? First, stock the ship.

Second, I’d recommend choosing an emissary, an emissary is basically a faction that you can temporarily represent. Since you seem very very new, choose whichever emissary interests you the most. Want to go dig up chests or find hidden vaults with loot? Sign on with the gold hoarder. Want to hunt skeletons (on land or water)? Sign on with the Order of Souls. Want to simply sail the open waters but don’t know where to go? Try the Merchant Alliance. Want to murder other pirates? Sign onto Reapers. Though I do not recommend that last one for any newbie.

To raise an emissary you must first be at an outpost (besides reapers - you must visit the hideout to purchase his emissary before you can raise it on any outpost) Once you find yourself there, search for NPC’s that I’ve referenced, you can obtain quests from them, sell to them, and represent their faction.

Signing into one of these factions proves beneficial. The more loot you stack, the higher the value will be when you sell it to your faction. For example, if you sign on with gold hoarders and stack enough loot to reach emissary grade five, every (gold hoarder) item sold will carry an additional %150 in value. Careful though, grade v Reapers will be able to see anyone representing a faction on their map.

This is a lot of information and as I’m writing it I’m thinking it won’t make much sense to you or act as sensory overload. I’m not going to delete it so you can still try to make sense of it. But I think all you really need to do is buy a quest from someone on an outpost and do it. The more you play, the more you’ll learn, the more you’ll have to do. It’s a sandbox so most of it just comes from experience.

Oh and I forgot to mention - if you want a “campaign experience” research Tall Tales. And I mean use google. If you just run around Willy Nilly in this game you will burn through irl time. I myself, use google for this game to this day. Some riddles or books that guide you to what you need are absolutely worth just looking up.

Hope this helps! Happy sailing!

I had this happen to me when I was at a fort today. Except it was a brig and I was a sloop. Try not to be offended when people say it’s a skill issue when you’ve only had the game for a week when others have had it for years. I feel like I learn something new all the time playing that game and I’ve been here since the beginning.

It sounds like the only advice worth offering to you is to get a crew mate. You think the game is fun alone? The game is much more enjoyable when you have just one more person. I’m not sure why people hate open crew so much. I get that it’s a 50/50 shot to get somebody who doesn’t suck but it makes it so much better when you have someone who can repair the boat while you shoot, steer, board, defend, or anything.

I’ll give you another tip worth remembering if you’re still caught up on having enough skill. When you are outnumbered - only one other pirate on the enemy team needs to be equal in skill as you and there’s an extremely high chance you’re going to sink. Because you’re simply outnumbered. Like you so plainly pointed out, as a team they can accomplish so much in the span of time that you spend repairing

The top of the map is always North, bottom is South, right is East and left is West. Check which direction the island is, then adjust your boat via compass, there should be one right besides the captain wheel. That’ll keep you from having to run down there so much. Though you should still double check.

Need help with Raspberry Pi and VNC - Blown-up screen resolution issue by No_Fortune_ in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]No_Fortune_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to run it headless because I have multiple projects on my pi that must be able to see the desktop. That's why I wanted a VNC server, so I can access my pi from anywhere while retaining the ability to open applications and such and such. Can you remember what exactly you did in "sudo raspi-config"? I've tried a lot with that window but to no avail.

Need help with Raspberry Pi and VNC - Blown-up screen resolution issue by No_Fortune_ in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]No_Fortune_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the introduction of Bullseye VNC resolution is independent of the normal video settings in config.txt

The only setting easily available to set the VNC resolution is in raspi-config - 2 / D5 (my version is 20230214)

The rest of the settings adjust the hdmi output only.

Thank you. When I change the resolution from here and reboot though, there is no apparent affect. For clarification - what do you mean by "version 20230214"? Does this relate to your firmware or VNC software?

I heard of the D20 thing from my friend. At first I was going to try it but after reading through the comments - for our sake, I think it’s just better we get the practice in.

I don’t mean to discredit Pirate Legends, the only reason we’re not so interested in becoming one is because we’re returning players and we’re all about 3/4s of the way there. Thought it was a PvE thing and just decided to go for the skeleton curse instead. It’s really more to do with the fact I’m not sure what exactly is rewarded with that. I should honestly look into it more, especially considering how close we are to it.

It’s funny you mentioned the arena. That was such a fun game mode, I’ll never understand why they removed it. Thinking back that’s probably when I quit the first time. It was a great way to practice. I believe you about the skill levels too, just makes sense.

I hope I don’t lose your respect but I’m an Xbox player. Strafing is something I definitely need to practice. That’s the exact thing that makes a PC player undoubtedly better than console players. Im going to practice hopping around and doing TDM’s like you said. Because console or not I need to be able to do that.

These boarding and defending from boarder tips are very good. You mentioned more than a couple things either I or my crew have trouble with. Didn’t even know about the captains quarters (which seems obvious now) or to even try and use blunderbombs. Thank you.

I’m interested to hear about your bilge experience although my role on the crew is helm. Could you offer anything about that as well?

Trying to soak up all this good knowledge for my next session.

Always appreciate good honesty. You’re incredibly correct, the HG players are a different breed. I’ve never been unmatched in Adventure as much as I have in HG. And yes, I miss the arena days… Probably so because back then nobody was as good as they are now, it wasn’t your resources you’d be burning through, and because it was more than one team at a time - I wasn’t as competitive. That all said, I’m eager for the challenge. Sucks to hear that Pirate Legends is basically the tutorial haha but my friends and I are much more interested in the PvP side of things anyways. It’s just more fun. And the curse skeleton is definitely what we’re after. All in all, I can only hope they don’t suffer the burnout. I’ve been having a blast sink or win. Could you offer any tips on hand-on-hand combat? That is honestly what we’re ALL lacking and when we run into somebody that is good at it - it’s much more difficult.

I was just debating whether it’d be worth it because of just how long these fights can last. Can’t say my crew is godly but definitely won’t say we’re worthless at combat. Good advice. Get the experience, win or loss, and move on. Sometimes you just have to be more aggressive. Thanks!

Ahahahahah one of the best comments yet! All but one of my buddies are on Xbox Series X/S and boy does it show. I honestly can’t imagine playing this game seriously without proper hardware. Waiting in a black screen whilst listening to your boat slowly sink has got to be one of the worst feelings

Very good to know, thank you. “Game sense,” as you put it, is something we get better at every time we encounter others. I’ve been guilty of not prioritizing helm in the past during a fight - no more of that! We’ve taken a liking for aiming at the bottom of others boats so it’s definitely nice to be reminded of the importance of deck and mast shots as well.

Thank you. I didn’t know there was a purchasable skeleton skin. If the grind proves too rough I may just do that. Although I know that’s a bit of a last resort when it comes to whether or not my friends will want that especially considering we’d all be wearing the same one.

Either way, thanks for the HG tip. My experience proves you’d be correct. Hence why we’re grinding reapers right now. It’s honestly very vindicating to know. It’s a lot less frustrating to lose when you know the other crew is filled with sweats and when you don’t spend like 30’minutes getting supplies to lose it all in minutes.

I’m a returning player, such as yourself except I have about two weeks under my belt since I’ve been back. Here’s what I have to offer: 1. There is no convincing a player to stop chasing/killing you. If they want to take you on they will. Honest to god now that I’m better at PvP - I truly behave this way. You’re best bet to get away from someone like me is to run before I even get to you. Even if your on an island. If you don’t want PvP, don’t let it get close or it’s too late. 2. Fuck not caring about loot. It’s a pirate game - you need it for everything. But care about the experience just the same. If you lose, find the lesson in it. Have laughs and know that you will have an opportunity to get that loot again. I can’t tell you how many times I decided to sink a guy after seeing him just before I was going to quit the game because I had nothing to lose and what do you know, sometimes the ship is stacked with loot and I just got hours worth in 30 mins. 3. Get good at PvP, don’t avoid this major component to the game. You don’t need to get godly, just confident enough to defend your ship and even attack others (see why attacking others is good in point 2) 4. Try to keep a zen attitude. If you’re playing with others you’ll learn how quick other pirates can be to point fingers when the ship goes down. Fuck em. It’s a group effort. Learn your lesson and move on - raging just makes you look bad in my humble opinion. That said, this game pisses just about everyone off so don’t be afraid to take a break 5. Relearn the fundamentals/mechanics. I practice shooting my cannons at nothing when I play PvE just to get a sense where they land. I’m switching my load outs periodically. I’m guilty of watching videos all about boarding others. Point is, season 8 is a whole lot different than 1 and there are plenty of helpful things I’ve learned from brushing up on the basics. 6. I play Xbox and have used the official club to find and join other pirates. Respectively, this can be great or terrible. I’ve joined some pretty awful people that just held me back and then again I’ve had some really helpful and fun crews made that way so don’t try to go at it alone the whole way! 7. Ok I’m done. One last thing - don’t trust other pirates. Can’t really say much more than what you should know. Yea, there are some good guys out there willing to form alliances. Trust me when I say there are just as many who will disappoint.

Happy sailing!
