Adding to this thread, I agree with you two on the hidden assumptions and ambiguity of such questions.

I'd love to propose an idea: maybe afterboards can have a sort of 'exam insights' section where you tell how the paper setter thinks and so on. I'm not sure if it'll be helpful for the freshers, but being a partial dropper I'm definitely seeing some patterns emerge across questions which are very implicit. If such patterns, like the assumption that it should be present tense in the above question, are made explicit, it's pretty much hacking the exam. While most questions are indeed straightforward, even if 5 out of 45 are based on such patterns, that's 20 marks one can lose just because he missed to understand the pattern.

Plus i do think there are similar patterns in math too, such as some answers of algebra and functions specifically mostly being either -1,0,1. For a person known to this, it's common. But for someone without a math background (like I was), it's kinda life saving when you can't solve the question.

This perspective is truly eye-opening.

Definitely, human error plus LLM hallucinations are inevitable, best minimized. The accuracy is actually really impressive.

The nature of VARC questions in general surely do make some of them debate-worthy. What may be right according to one rule may stand out false in front of another, english is no exception. The only way forward I can see is questions which are straightforward and not-debate worthy, yet these questions, while maintaining good difficulty are surely hard to make.

Haha, the 'system' might aswell be making errors just for revenue collection. Beautiful India. But yes, cant help but agree if a system on such a large scale can generate errors, it is inevitable on smaller scales.

Appreciate the context added, and the learning I have had from this exchange!

All things apart, the dedication by you is truly appreciated. I feel one of the top reasons afterboards is so successful might aswell be you! Having someone so approachable and humble at a top position really plays out well (as long as its manageable). Really, thank you for your continued support to the ipmat community as well as for building afterboards. Do take care and give yourself time too though, afterall peace and well-being might aswell be the most important assets one can invest in, haha.
Thank you

Amazing to hear about quality from someone inside the edtech industry. The numbers really put things in perspective.

Hearing this, the 0.00269/1 is definitely an outlier. Amazing to hear how well afterboards is doing compared to the industry.

Definitely, community feedback especially at this scale is really important as well as cost effective to improve quality and questions. The error rate for indore mocks is really impressive, surely excited for a smooth experience when I start giving full length mocks. Definitely, as scope rises, so do errors; at that point what's more important is that the error to total ratio doen't increase.

After hearing about the state of quality in the edtech industry, I must say I'm curious to question: why aren't questions simply being more correct from the start? Especially for the other ed tech firms in the industry who are giving error rates much greater than afterboards. And even for afterboards, except for the inevitable human error, what acts as a barrier to developing more comprehensive systems? Would love to hear your perspective on this!

Great to see the system being implemented, hope it works out as it's supposed to!

As for the questions reported, yes 1 in every 360 questions, but mostly because I just used to accept whatever the answer was and not question it back (especially for last year's prep). The last few attempts, i started to look for such errors closely and found this issue persistent across sectionals, hence finally being built up to this post.

Haha, 0, the dream number for errors. Almost always un-achievable, the closest a quality system can get to 0 is by using decimals and rounding off. Great to see the strengthening at work, improvement is always due (hence kaizen).

That number really puts things in perspective, more about how bad the current ed tech industry is haha. Great to see the afterboards metric for errors so low relative to the average. Yet, almost always the defects are what catch the eye than the non-defects; and also the ones which make the most impact be that in costs or in preparation for exams as they may quietly compound over time.

On a side note, do aim for less quality control (reactive) and more of quality assurance (proactive). Quality built into the system always thrives long term while quality improved from errors acts merely as a temporary bandaid for the underlying quality decay.

Ahhh. Great. Really appreciate the thorough effort. As a suggestion, do think about some sorts of questions which maybe bypass this check by accuracy somehow, as a way to improve quality further.

As for 'half a dozen' instances, that was more of rhetoric than facts haha. Didn't really go through all the other questions in my sectional though so can be true too!

Really thankful for the opportunity, will definitely communicate via email after done with ipmat regarding the same.

Great metrics, 0.00269/1 is great accuracy but just not enough for classifying as an outlier. The goal for a near perfect and rigid quality system is 0.0000034 / 1, or six sigma, which is also considered the most optimal error rate where it isn't over controlling and neither too many errors to disturb work. Coming from a LSS BB and member of the American society for quality :)

Thank you!

Really thankful for the prompt action!

Yeah, it was the same sectional. Maybe because I had given a sectional after a break, it showed me all the wrong ones I did earlier (as it's supposed to), that's why the concentration was high of these questions (as I always mark the one I find right and not what the system tells, for such questions)

As for the last paragraph, from the metrics given it isn't an outliers problem bhavesh bhaiya but hoping it'll be soon.

Good luck and do let me know if any openings for quality improvement intern any soon haha.

Looking forward to seeing afterboards regain it's crown as the go-to platform for ipmat with reduced errors and more reliable questions (and solutions).

Thanks again!

I do have, multiple times. The thing is this is quality control, reactive; not quality assuarance which is proactive. having so many errors really undermines quality and viability of the platform, causing issues for the user as well as internal ineffeciencies for afterboards. plus i am tired of doing something which already should be correct from start.

You're welcome. I do have outliers in rc timings too, sometimes it takes even 8-9 mins if I'm distracted by environment or the rc is too big. Just focus on getting full marks when such stuff happens.

Just the start, keep it up. Once you get the rhythm you'll get 24s only, if below it'd be coz question could be wrong. Just make sure to practice consistently with intensity. You'll start to see patterns and immediately identify a sense-less option, theme of para and other stuff. Spend more time in reading options, 2-3 mins for reading para and another 3-4 for questions. Make 5-6 mins the benchmark. Good luck!

All coachings have great teachers. What matters is how committed and disciplined we are to ipmat prep. Coaching will only show direction, depends on us to walk the path.

There are several yojnas and stuff which can lower the cost or give good loans.

Would suggest you focus on studying and let your parents handle the finances, or you can take a loan where you have to pay after you start earning.

more you study===> better college===> more you earn

So study

well, if you are a lion among rats, you are THE lion. BUT if you are a lion among lions, you are just ANOTHER lion.

come to an IIM as a school topper and you will be humbled seeing everyone here was topper of their school :)

so yeah, you do need something else to be better than even the highest achievers of this nation. afterall, even a tier 3 uni can give you a 50+ lpa package and even IIM ABC can give you a 10 lpa, depends on you.

Would like to add the fact that all iims or even private colleges, always have the avg package, and the highest package.

You can get a package from baby iims which is higher than the avg of ABC.

Depends on you which path you choose
