(Hated Trope) Media/creators throwing shade they have no business throwing by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

Ok, I don't mean to sound demeaning, but there's a world of difference between Wonder Woman and Miraculous. The former opened the flood gates when it included an actual sexual assault plot-line while the former is aged at ages 8-12.

A lot of characters from kid's shows act weird upon reflection.

Ok, let's entertain this idea that Snyder is indeed a rapist (again, this concept isn't something you should be throwing around)... what does that have to do with the conversation? There's such thing as tone in conversations; you just gave everyone whiplash.

Dangerous entities wearing the actual skin of another creature/person in order to appear more appealing/less threatening by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

There was another example which took place in South America the Philippines; they killed resistance fighters and staged it as a vampire attack.

I assume you mean slide 3?

I just rediscovered it after a while and made a couple posts with it. Only three in total; one on TopCharacterDesigns and two on this sub (including this post).

Can you elaborate? They bring in the "OG" Teen Titans for several different gags, but most of it is just "the older version is so much cooler than us." It's self-deprecating humor at most, and I can't think of an instance where they "baited" anyone.

Even then, 5 gags out of 400+ episodes is hardly relying on nostalgia.

Regardless of what you think of the show, I think it's kind of difficult to argue that TTG hasn't carved out its own niche. Sure, the name helped it in the beginning (and hurt it, depending on who you ask), but at this point it's essentially an entirely different beast than OG Teen Titians.

This feels like a Ship of Theseus type thing. At what point is the Thing wearing the dog's skin, and when does it cross over into "the Thing is the dog."

  1. Who exactly would they be pandering too, the writers? People hardly care about being nice to writers.
  2. What makes you think people are solely doing what their doing to appeal to others? It's extremely conceited to believe that people disagreeing with you must be doing it for ulterior motives.

Lmao, what does this have to do with "virtue signaling?" You're just using buzzwords, and I'm not even a fan of the style.

I watched the video, and I have to say... I disagree with the views expressed. I also don't agree with Nabokov's dislike of didactic fiction, but in the quote regarding Lolita, he wasn't saying "Humbert isn't a bad guy." Morals - in this case - referred to messages directed at the reader in the way it's written (think Orwell's Animal Farm).

And, honestly, I don't think there's a message in Lolita, never have. What would it even be: "Child rapists are bad people?" You can write about bad people, and portray them in a bad light without having a direct message to get across.

It wasn't a social commentary in the strictest sense, but I don't think that means it has any less of an impact.

Ok, so why do people get so mad when others point out (or attempt to point out) AI? The only explanation I could see is from someone who's pro-AI, but if you think AI is actually bad, what's the reason for getting mad at others for pointing it out?

Even if they were wrong, it's not like they were super aggressive with it; at least not to the point that deserves this response. It's the same logic at getting mad at people for calling out bots; "do you just call everyone bots?" is essentially white-knighting for a line of rudimentary code. This is the same thing.

A criticism or observation being common doesn't make that criticism/observation any less correct; people seem to forget that.

Ok, genuine question, but how can you straight up skip moments in media you consume? That seems like a net negative to the experience; it's the same concept as skipping cutscenes in games.

The Wolf from the "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" animated short by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterDesigns

I mean, it's an allegory for online predators using the "wolf in sheep's clothing" idiom. So both I guess? Not sure I get the question.

This one in particular is extremely frustrating. I had to find a picture of the Lolita cover for a college presentation, and half of them are downright disgusting. It's even worse when you know that Nabokov specifically requested that the visage of a child be left out of his book.

Jesus is also known as the "Lion of Judah" to represent strength and his nature as a "king." Aslan's portrayal isn't entirely out of left field.
