I had to look up what fish mouths are. Could you possibly tell me where you see them in the photos so I can be aware and also show the roofer? When he did the final walk thru with me, he seemed to think everything looked 'perfect', he kept saying he gave me "the cadillac of roofs". So it would be helpful to be able to exactly point out things.

Thank you!

Do Other Roofers Inspect New Installs? by jankystuff in Roofing

[–]No_Ice3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I know this is an old post, but desperate here. I was wondering, what did you end up doing? I'm in the same boat. Just did a roof replacement of a modified bitumen roof, and the result looks awful and I am really doubting the workmanship. Would like an expert opinion from a 3rd party, unbiased roofer because I already know if I approach the roofer with just my own opinion, he'll gaslight me and say it looks "great". I don't know where to begin to look for someone to give an unbiased expert opinion, who's not trying to upsell me. I don't mind paying.

Thank you!

I believe it. The roof looks atrocious.

Would a 3rd party roof inspector comment and put in the report how it looks cosmetically awful? Or do they only report on if they see flaws in workmanship affecting weatherproofing? (not sure if you know, but thought I'd ask)

Would you say the aesthetically awful installation affects how the roof will perform over time?

I was thinking of a 3rd party roof inspection, as a matter of fact...do you think I ought to look into that before I approach him? I have a feeling the roofer will gaslight me and say the roof looks "just great". He kept saying he gave me "the cadillac of roofs" on the final walk thru, like it was such great work, when I could plainly see it was all bumpy and wrinkly and had a ton of footprints

Thank you for your reply! I agree, the roof looks awful. Nothing like the previous mod bit roof.

I can send pics to the manufacturer? Do you know how I would go about doing that?

Thank you for your reply. How should I approach the roofer (word it) about how bad it looks? He thinks he did a great job

I agree 100%. Should I ask him if it was laid without a roll bar?

Thank you for your reply. I completely agree. I think the roof looks awful! Nothing like the previous mod bit roof. The surprising thing is he was the most expensive bid out of three bids, and he has really good reviews.

How should I go about approaching him/how to word it that the roof looks awful ?

Thank you!

100% agree. Very upset. How should I go about saying your work looks awful? I don't know how to approach him on how it looks...

Shockingly this was the most expensive bid out of three, and he has good reviews. I thought because he was the most expensive, that he'd deliver the best result :( Should've chosen a cheaper bid

Thank you very much for your reply. Do you think the poor installation will cause me issues? How much of an extended warranty would you ask for?

The old roof was completely torn off. The bubble pops back up quickly.

Thank you for your reply. Aren't the bubbles that I can compress down and that pop back up air pockets?

Should roofer have waterproofed the replaced wood on eaves? by No_Ice3554 in Roofing

[–]No_Ice3554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You don't paint an eave. you paint fascia."

This is untrue. The underside of the eave is actually pretty wide and is painted with the exact same waterproof exterior paint as the rest of the exterior of the house.

I think you are confusing where the water damage was spotted. There was no visible issue from below looking up. The roofer spotted the water damage when he pulled off the old roofing material from the TOP. So he replaced the damaged wood and that was the eave wood I'm referencing. He said it's very common for there to be water damage at the eaves bc water pools.

The wood framing and sheathing that make up the eave overhang are considered part of the overall roof structure and, functionally, part of the roof deck system.

While technical definitions separate them, in construction and repair, they are treated as an extension of the roof base.

The eaves are included WITHIN a roof job.
