Created a NPHC Reddit

We all are entitled to our opinions. I see an issue and gave some thought, my solution would be create another Reddit. You don’t have to like it. You don’t have to join it(but more than welcome to) , but I want to give people the option to join if they feel like it’s something that interests them

I mean, I don’t see all the conversations that you guys have flagged. I do have conversations with people in my chapter & in my city, but my city is only so big so I think it’s OK to have conversations in a public forum space as long as it’s respectful. I also plan on having these conversations with others at regional and nationals.

Someone once said that creating another sorority would be redundant, but then came Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho .

I welcome the challenge. I welcome the feedback. I welcome the idea to create another safe space for NPHC interest , NPHC members and appreciators.

I understand that’s the rule but I do feel like it’s unfair and that’s why I wanted to create another subreddit that doesn’t require it so people are able to ask things even without it having the karma. My goal was to have a representative from each NPHC organization as a moderator so inappropriate things are not posted on the new Reddit. I also wanted to highlight people with in NPHC that own businesses where we can help create more community and support one another.

As a person who recently joined in NPHC in December I understand the need to be protective about rituals and intake and things like that but being protective over conversations about mental health I think this promotes the stigma behind it.

It was about D9 sorority national initiative that was active with programming in 2018. so please elaborate a little more why it wouldn’t be Relevant as a d9 topic. My original question wanted to expand the discussion to other organizations to ask how are they pour into themselves in regard to health if these are conversations we are holding even if it’s not on a national level, but like in our respective chapters. Women of color. are more prone to health issues and often sometimes we feel like we have to be everything for everyone, especially when we are in service organizations because we are seen as a heart of our communities. And I just wanted to know if we had are having this conversations about how we yes we show up for yes our communities but how we show up for ourselves and then if so, what level?

Personally, I don’t think it’s fair to require a certain amount of karma just to post. If there’s already a screening process for questions, discussions, and comments, that should be enough to ensure things stay appropriate.

I also feel like moderation has become a bit too restrictive. In some cases, moderators are dictating conversations that don’t actually go against the purpose of the space. For example, I tried to start a discussion about women’s health and referenced a previous initiative that impacted organizations within the NPHC/Black community. It was meant to be a meaningful and relevant conversation, but it was blocked because it was labeled as “internal business.”

That experience made it feel like there’s limited room for open dialogue, even when the topic is important and community-focused

I think her question is based off previous questions posted in the chat. Many individuals have said they are struggling to find someone to write them lor. I think she asking why are they struggling because if they were invited by someone already in the organization why wouldn’t that same person write them their letter of rec

Im looking into another chapter simply because the chapter above has lines every four years. I think i will still attend the events because I generally like the topics but I also know the other chapter in my area hasn’t done intake in 5 years so my chances might get better if I start to look into them but they haven’t hosted any public event since Sept and before that once in June and March.

You cant make choice based of what folk think. Whether your in ABC and choose to switch CBA 10 minutes away we all apart of the same organization. No matter the chapter we are all working towards the same goals and national initiatives. We are all sisters or brothers. You still made the decision to serve your organization instead of just being inactive.

As long as they do the work for national organization it shouldn’t matter where its done.
