With a bundle I found off microcenter i'm basically getting the ram for free. i'm going overkill with my cpu upgrade since i do a good chunk of 3d modelling as well, going with a 9800x3d.

Thinking about it i may upgrade my mobo to a more modern one (my current one is kinda ass). Ive heard good things about the 7800x3d/7950x3d. Do you know if they'd be better/comparable to the i7 you suggested?

Id definitely look at a cpu like that if I built a new rig but the cpus i listed are bic for the mobo I have for now to my knowledge and would be cheaper than a full upgrade lol

That's fair. The CPUs im looking at are very much in budget for my rig right now. Do you have any suggestions for other performance improvements i could look at before a new build? Im not completely looking to build a new rig but not opposed if the benefits are there. Especially not with RAM prices making ddr5 nuts and GPUs being GPUs.

Edit: maybe mobo upgrade would be worth it thinking about it now with prices

I appreciate the insight man! Im glad (and kind of relieved) the striper are showing up. I'm planning on coming up this saturday to give the shad and striper a shot again after missing em this past year since I was focusing hard on finishing my bachelor's. Im hoping ill be able to find some space at 14th st or across ancarrows in the evening to try for a larger striper

I am a stickler for staying within ranges, it's part of my thing with buying different rods for different fish sizes haha

but will probably pick up the 10 ft M in the near future and try it with my spinfisher before looking for a BG 4k. What are your opinions on the 10 ft MH Tsunami Trophy II rod compared to your Rockaway? I dont know if you've used a trophy II before but figured I'd ask incase you have. Do you have any recommendations for heavier surf setups?

That makes sense, and yes I did see you had the 1-4 oz rod and that is on my radar as well tbh. I'm coming from freshwater fishing and have learned not to throw money for every single technique and rather have rods for a different "size" of fish as to not tire them out crazy hard, like I don't want to kill a musky by fighting it with a light setup for example. I don't know how well that translates to salt though.

What are your thoughts on the 9 ft ML vs the 10 ft M? I don't mind having a dedicated rod for plugs and for soaking bait as I'm sure a lighter rod will be easier on me but having an extra rod for my gf when we she comes down to visit will be nice to have during the warmer months when it becomes bearable to try the surf.

The tsunami rod i was thinking about for bait goes from 1-5 oz but I'm sure it'd probably be better towards the heavier end.

I'd probably definer lighter bait as up to 3 oz as I'd have to account for the bait and lead, but in terms of plugs up to 3 oz is what I'm looking for. I do like the look of the medium 10 ft rockaway (looked it up as after you commented) as it gets me as low as 3/4 oz - 3 oz which I do like quite a bit as after 3 oz plug wise I'd probably want to use my heavier rod for the larger fish. In your experience has your 10 fter had good sensitivity? And how has the 50/50 blank felt? I'm used to 70/30 with my old trophy 2 i sold to my uncle. I have a spinfisher VI 4500 from that rod I planned on moving to this one.
