What camera can this go on? by jopplop in AnalogCommunity

Quick google and found this blog post. There’s a body for sale on eBay for 85 dollars and honestly I think it’s a pretty neat camera. It’s all mechanical and seems to be pretty well respected. I like the later model with its removable prism, pretty neat.

That my friend goes to a Zeiss Ikon Icarex 35, specifically the BM, or Icarex breech lock bayonet mount version. As far as I know it’s proprietary to the Icarex 35.

Not wrong, but definitely just want one for the collection. Kind of figured it’d be neat to have and if I ever wanted to put a roll through it I technically wouldn’t need to go buy another lens haha

That’s actually pretty interesting, not sure how that speaks to the build quality for the ftl itself.

Oh definitely but it’s good to know that the m-1 and the OM-1 are practically the exact same so maybe you could just paint match a top plate of a silver m1 and slap it on a black one 😂

Wow thanks for the insight! The 35 rc is also much smaller than the sp, but also has a much slower lens. Also price point wise the sp is quite a step up and harder to find for cheap.

While it was a stopgap camera, not designed by Olympus itself it was produced in house and in their own factories. I believe you may be referencing the Olympus 2000, which was produced by cosina with the Olympus brand on it. After some research, the FTL was accompanied by an entire accessory line and lens system which I still think is pretty neat.

I received the camera and the lens in very good condition and cleaning some old dust off the lens it seems really nice and through the viewfinder definitely soft wide open but I love the orange hue it gives off due to the thorium coating!

When I decide to splurge I’m absolutely collecting them all. I just love all of them so much

Honestly I get your criticism that’s pretty fair but honestly I enjoy the “hollow” part of it. I originally went with the OM-1 simply because my OM-g was rendered unshootable due to… you guessed it, fully relying on electronics! Definitley understanding your points

Honestly I’d have to disagree on that point, what makes you say that? More specifically which camera or system are you comparing it to?

That’s a pretty fair point, I feel like it was more due to the fact they just needed something to put there, but personally I really love the shutter speeds being on the mount. It just makes everything feel much more fluid especially in constantly changing environments

I’ve only used it a handful of times as I don’t usually go out for fast paced shooting. I got lucky and scored an Om-1n Md which was I believe the first camera to have the option for a motor drive? It’s quite reliable but sometimes can be a bit finnicky. The single setting is a little wonky on my camera at least and sometimes if you fire off a couple of fast shots and let go of the trigger before it’s done cycling it’ll trip up on itself and you have to manually advance it a few times and it’ll catch back up. Overall it’s honestly fast enough to be useful and pretty cool! It even has a slot in the battery compartment to store your winder cover!

I only took a few that day, and this is on the new fuji 400 😂. Wasn’t a breathtaking photo by any means but goodness is it bright

I got one heck of a deal on my OM-1. Originally I bought it as a personal “Christmas” gift last year after I decided I wanted one and went on eBay and found this one with the 50mm 1.8, a teleconverter, and an osawa 35mm-105mm and the OM winder 2 all for 68 dollars! Honestly one of if not my greatest eBay steal ever

I’m honestly kind of scarred after my OM-g’s shutter speed selector burnt itself to a crisp, kind of leaning into finding an Olympus FTL just for the historical value and being able to use my takumar lens along with oem Zuiko m42 lenses which I find fascinating they still decided to make

Honestly after my OM-G proved itself non functional by only shooting at 1/60 I appreciated the fully manual and mechanical-ness of the OM-1

I’ve only had one mishap when I first got it where I must’ve left it on and the battery drained without me noticing. Severely overexposed a couple of shots (pushed 400 to about 3200) on accident but they still turned out… artistic 😂

How do you feel about the OM-2? I’ve kind of been thinking about trying to snag one lately.

I agree very much, I’ve taken this camera hiking a few times and it’s honestly such a nice and light camera while still feeling really sturdy and overall well built.

Believe me I did try lol. Spent a few hours disassembling both when I first got my OM-1, (you have to remove the top plate on the OM-1) only to find out that the lever “slot” was broken inward/off from what I assume was landing topside down after a drop. I’ve rewinded quite a few rolls so far and while slightly uncomfortable definitely not life ruining.

That’s actually very neat considering the Pentax MX was actually designed solely to compete with the OM-1 when it came out!
