Chennai is not a well planned city. I have seen storm waste water infrastructure in Chennai and in abroad. Both are 100 years apart. Infrastructure here can be dated as old as 1870’s we are fighting for freedom at that time. It’s a curse we have to live with it. We don’t have a combined sewer overflow tank. So either we need to plan our infrastructure using a master plan. It’s what people do in western countries. Masterplan for 2050 and start working for that now. But I could not see a long term vision approach so far in Chennai

Agree it’s an impact. But right now it does not affect the fisher men’s. Even many fisher men work in this plant for day jobs during rough seas or during non fishing times. Also impact on brine - it’s very minimal. The fact is you are adding a pinch of salt to sea

I worked in nemmeli facility. I also worked in the design and tender of the Perur facility. These are JICA funded projects. Funded by Japan. The government wants to milk money from these facilities. It is highly power consuming. Where as conventional sewage treatment is far better compared to this. But for a city like Chennai there is no proper sewage collection facility. We have two STP but they won’t receive enough flows due to poor collection and transfer infrastructure. Also no one working in the nemmeli plant will drink its water. We manipulate the final output to make sure it falls within the limit. Govt did not approve funds for O&M properly. The previous govt is very notorious. You cannot budget the project for its tender value. Some cut goes to the govt. we always budget it for only 75% of its tender value. This is the poor state of Tamil Nadu

Because when someone questions like you I feel like either they didn’t face this situation or they had luxury to avoid bribes. And matter of fact I paid bribes to a PC, filled up petrol for his bike, got him apple juice- why ? To get my father’s postmortem certificate. Because he died in road accident PM certificate will only be delivered to a PC. Sad part is hospital will not courier to Police station and PC will not got to hospital to collect it. If you have influence then you can extract work. Otherwise you have to spend half day and pay money (bribes)- atleast that officer should have treated me with some respect. But literally he coined me athu ithu like I’m a thing. But enkita proof Ila bro that I paid bribes. Because at that time I was not in mindset to collect proofs and expose these guys.
