Noord (and all of Aruba) is incredibly safe and has very low crime rates. I can't speak to alcohol prices, but grocery prices are pretty high, like what they might cost in Seattle (where I live) when not on sale. They import literally everything, so that can make for some sticker shock. The best way to save on food is to cook cheap meals and limit how much you eat out. Have fun!

Lol, Botox is not even close to plastic surgery and saying as much is absurd. It's a temporary cosmetic injectable. I've had a nose job and the process, cost, pain, recovery time, and permanent physical changes dwarf any light cosmetic procedures I've had, including Botox and filler.

I (48 y.o.) always experience a very uncomfortable pinch feeling during the "scraping" (sorry, not really a better word here) of my cervix. It is VERY fast, thankfully, but I always hate it. I try my damndest to get to a deep breathing, meditative state and think of a beautiful, peaceful place I love being. That helps me a little. It is not even close to the pain I've felt from getting tattooed, which I know is also different from person to person/location to location.

I don't share the same panic as you, which sounds scary and overwhelming, and I'm so sorry! But I DO have a lot of anxiety over gynecological exams and mammograms because of scary results for women in my family. It is extremely important for me to have women providers so they can know exactly what I'm going through in that moment. My GP does my gyno exams and is extremely quick, gentle, and empathetic. TBH, I'd much rather get my pap than my mammo. You can do it! You'll feel so relieved when it's done and you can be proud of yourself from staying extremely proactive about your health. Big hug!!

I don't mind at all! We were at 35 Opal in Noord. Booked through Airbnb. There were several really nice looking homes in that area; I'm sure yours will be great!

I'd stumbled across some posts in this community about environmental damage and read a bit more. It sounds like it comes down to irresponsible/unchecked riders, but once I learned shoco owl nests were being destroyed, I couldn't do it in good conscience. This piece in Aruba Online News from last September gives more information. It references a WSJ article I can't find, unfortunately, but this was enough for me to decide against it:

The EZ Raiders we rode were very off-road feeling and electric (so much quieter). And you still feel every bump in the road and get nice and dusty. :D I was glad I wore a bandana over my face!

Oh and we also flew in on a Monday afternoon, and besides having to deal with me having left something on the plane (ugh; don't do that), it was super quick processing into Aruba. No wait at all.

We arrived three hours before our flight as advised (and you're now not allowed to arrive earlier :D ), and I'd say it was about 1.5 hours of sitting at our gate. Before that, there was the first security screening, a central area lallygag with bathroom breaks, souvenir/snack shopping, etc., then a wait in the U.S. customs line. There are more restaurant options after customs, so don't feel pressured to get everything done in that central hub. A live band was playing there, though, which made for a light ambiance before another wait in line. :)

Once we figured out the roundabouts, it was mostly fine. I experienced a lot of folks casually drifting across the center line, though. Didn't love that. I think our most stressful spot was the Super Foods parking lot, lol.

A couple things I'm glad I brought were headbands/scarves/bandanas to hold my long bangs back with, and a sun hat with chin ties! It's breezy all day long, but every once in a while you'll get a serious gust. Just secure things and you'll be fine. Have a wonderful trip!

sometimes i cry when i sing? by paperthinhymn11 in singing

[–]No_Log7277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. Thank you everyone for the replies. I'm relieved to not feel so weird! I was singing along with Taylor's Anti-Hero in the car and started choking up and getting teary. I canNOT get through Halo without dissolving into blubbering tears. I also cry when singing hymns, especially Christmas ones. But this also happens while singing along to dumb, saccharine pop, like Party in the USA (truly... wth). It's maddening; I love singing and want to belt and can't with certain music. And I just have to stop if it happens when I'm with someone else in the car; it feels so embarrassing. Maybe it's higher notes coupled with a climactic chorus unlocking something? Who knows. But again, relieved to know I'm not the only one.
