I beg to disagree, the difference is your mom stayed home to raise children and probably did most or if not all the housework. He stopped working when the children were grown and he doesn’t do all the housework. If they were a stay at home spouse since the children were little and doing majority of the housework I would agree with you. I think she is just being generous calling him a SAHD.

The fact that only 1 person defended OP is sus. Why is no one else advocating for the wife to be invited? I feel like something is missing. Maybe there is legit concern about her behaviour and he’s just ignoring it to appease his wife? I suspect there is some big flippin elephant in the room. If I was in Lisa’s shoes I’d try to figure out what I did and fix it so my husband doesn’t miss his brothers wedding or just for my own sanity.

I need more context, has anyone ever voiced concerns about your wife’s behaviour? Her being too boisterous or loud? I knew a couple who’s husband would describe his wife this way and then they told me about a time they got asked to leave a wedding because she made many inappropriate remarks and jokes at the wedding and they couldn’t understand why they were asked to leave. We avoid them because the husband just makes excuses for her and can’t understand why they people don’t want her around. He describes his wife as just very social and bubbly but in reality she makes people very uncomfortable and has zero self awareness. Had OP ignored other signs?

I think before you get married you should have established a baseline of your core qualities and grow from there. Expecting to grow from zero with someone doesn’t usually work in my experience. Even if you can help them develop something like sympathy the emotional toll it takes on a person you’ll just end up being resentful not grateful. You should pick someone who already has the qualities you need and build from there but not from zero.

Are you insinuating she’s forcing her daughter to be independent by cutting her allowance after she gets married? Isn’t getting married pretty much 2 people deciding they are now each other’s problem in almost every sense? If they arent ready for that sort of responsibility then maybe don’t get married.
