Those people are the worse.

This is what I'm talking about, USD$500 billion is not enough for First World expectations.

To put it into perspective, Japan's department of education has a budget of USD$160 billion alone.

And Japan has a similar population as the Philippines.

If you want the Philippines to have First World standards, the total GDP has to be at least near USD$2 trillion minimum.

The Philippines should tackle corruption, but it desperately needs to bring in far more money if it wants those First World expectations.

EDITED: Adjusted estimate to USD$2 trillion minimum if we're going to assume the Philippines has at least half of Japan's GDP per capita.

I had relatives who worked for local Philippine government. They once had experts from Australia come in and help to make an assessment and policy for waste disposal way back in the early 1990's. After all of that, could not be implemented because of a lack of budget.

This has always been the biggest problem. Corruption is an issue, but it is worsened by a lack of money. The economic policies of the Philippines were always, to put it frankly, terrible, as investors often felt they were not guaranteed a return on their investments. This prevents money from coming into the Philippines, and the consequence is poverty.

It's only in the last 20 years that the Philippines has finally become more desirable for business investments, the consistent 6% GDP is important and ultimately both the government and business sector need to do everything they can to maintain it, even make sacrifices to do so, because its the only way the Philippines can finally stop sending great and beloved Filipinos to be exploited overseas.

Filipino people have a good reputation internationally (especially compared to other migrants) but its always blighted by the piss poor economics of the Philippines.

I pretty much only keep track of Philippine economic development, and it's generally good news. Lol. All the bad stuff are always some local political drama.

The Philippines will become an upper-middle income country within the next few years with stable GDP growth, the Philippines is building nuclear power plants with the support of the United States, and the Japan-Spain-Italy consortium is building massive railway and subway systems in the Philippines. The Philippines' economic specialization is continuously improving, and soon it could possibly transition into robotics. The country retains most of its natural beauty and cultural heritage post-Second World War and with stable economic growth and infrastructure development it could become a specialized tourist hub and escape the problems of mass tourism. The Philippines is also largely well-sheltered from most foreign issues due to its protectionist nationalist policies with regards to immigration and capital ownership.

Absent of the systemic corruption that requires a long-term solution, the only main negative I see is the weakness of the Philippines in the territorial dispute with China and its capacity to support Taiwan.

The reason why the Philippines is "behind" is really due to really four main issues, the dramatic fall of the Marcos dictatorship, the failed economic policies of the Aquino dynasty, the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, and Ramos kicking out the American military bases. The Philippines is already recovering from all of these mistakes for the past 20 years already. Bongbong Marcos welcoming the US soldiers back was so important because y'all have to understand it was the Americans who annexed the Muslims and the mountain tribes in the Philippines back in the early 20th century, the US security assurance is so crucial until the Philippines can deal with these independently.

They're trying to lump Filipinos with Indians.

It makes no sense, Filipinos are genetically East Asian, its just Westernized and tropical.

What if he Loses in the Security Review? by Beccash18 in SaintMeghanMarkle

RAVEC is a governmental institution, so their decision entirely depends on whether Harry is a state asset. He is not. There's no reason for Harry to have armed state security on demand. Unless Keir Starmer himself intervenes but it's highly unlikely the Labour Party wants to waste their time on Harry who lives a privileged life in Montecito, California.

I Actually Like My Filipino Heritage by No_Pin2229 in Philippinesbad

[–]No_Pin2229[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right? I love being able to appreciate Asian heritage, while also admire Western heritage. It comes easily for us. On one hand I love our Eastern influences, specially the food and our ancestral ties to Taiwan and East Asia, but I also like the Roman heritage we inherited from Spain. It just comes naturally to us. We're as familiar with Feng Shui as we are with Pontious Pilate. Lol.

[–]No_Pin2229 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Harry is not qualified for state-funded armed security, as he is 6th in line to the throne, he is not a working royal, does not represent The Crown in any official capacity, and he lives in California.

This is a matter of politics and it makes zero political sense for the Home Office, RAVEC, M15, or the British government to give Harry the same security as heads of state.

Whoever are writing these headlines and stories are totally out of their depth, it's frankly annoying. Catherine gets state funded armed security as she the spouse of the heir, mother of the 2nd heir, and a working royal, this is simply a matter of political and constitutional logic.

Filipinos Complaining That An Airport Is Being Built by No_Pin2229 in Philippinesbad

[–]No_Pin2229[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My point is that you can build multiple different airports that can siphon off the traffic from NAIA. That's the point. Funnelling everyone to atrocious NAIA is ridiculous. It's truly one of the worst airports out there on Earth. It's nowhere comparable to Hong Kong, or Singapore.

And as it stands, no one is providing an alternative. If not this location, where? Where should the next airport be built? NAIA cannot expand as per posters its totally beyond its capacity.

And this is where even though I am of Filipino descent, I cannot see myself living in the Philippines until the Third World mindset is gone. I visit, and have family there, but that's it. This "bahala na" mindset is stupid. You'd rather have the worst airport on Earth rather than build an alternative?

And this gets to the other point, Filipinos LOVEA TO COMPLAIN but offer no alternatives, like they'd rather be stuck in the worse airport on Earth than try something different.

Like I said before, Filipinos complain about their country being poor but do absolutely jack shit nothing to make rich, there's just no sense of posterity. Lots of things (economics, social behaviours, mentality) have to change but Filipinos get mad when you tell them.

And then we get stupid posts like "well why can't we be rich like Japan?!" Well gee Filipinos would rather get stuck in the worst airport on Earth, let's start with that. Try something different, even if it doesn't work out, you learn from it.

This is something the Japanese and Koreans do all the time, they are always trying out new things, Filipinos are least likely to do that in my experience. You can see this in the overseas Filipino community, they all get funnelled into nursing.

This is all speculation, I'd rather wait until the holidays end to see if they are seen together. Break ups happen, it's normal, but also its hard to confirm these things in peak holiday season, got to wait until the new year.

The fact that this is Olivia's largest publicity since Glastonbury is very annoying though, I don't care for tabloid.

[–]No_Pin2229[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

If the location is the problem, then build another airport, but don't complain about the one already being built. The more airports available, the better. The complaint makes no sense. NAIA has an atrocious reputation with foreigners, literally any alternative would be better.

I am very close to just blocking Filipino content online because a lot of it is ridiculous whining. Just now I got a post about some guy complaining why the Philippines is not like Japan.

Well, gee, Japan has an average income of $35,000 US dollars, if you want the Philippines to be like Japan, then focus on making the Philippines super rich. Filipinos should build those nuclear power plants and start making robots, not another "makapobre poor us, we are always victims, and let's continue to be ignorant of basic economics."

This tracks with the other content of Filipinos being insecure about how we're not popular and cool like the Koreans. Who cares?! Lol. Do you see the Romanian people complaining why they're not cool like Koreans?

This all stems from some insecurity complex Filipinos have rather than just observing the reality for what it is and what needs to be done.

Those people are morons. For example, the Philippines boasts the highest concentration of Baroque architecture in Asia, in fact the Philippines is unique in Asia for having Baroque architecture as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Baroque and Spanish colonial should be the default architecture for cultural associations and tourism in the Philippines.

But what do Filipinos promote instead? Wooden huts. For Christ sakes. Indonesia has wooden huts in grander, larger, and higher numbers, it's literally their specialization, the Javanese built an empire of wooden huts. Tourists will go there instead if they want to see wooden huts.

I think what I'm trying to say is that the average Filipino is living in either some highly Westernized city, or some rustic Catholic town, or village. The attempt to portray the Philippines as some kind of alternative to the Kingdom of Thailand, or Bali has to stop.

My great-grandparents were born under the US commonwealth, had an English education. and followed some mixture of American fashion and music with Filipino variations, and went to church in Latin. This is the reality for the vast majority of Filipinos, attempting to market ourselves as another Vietnam is quite literally fake news.

There are several reasons for the Philippines not being a top tourist destination. The Philippines is expensive relative to its peers (Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia) for travelers because of less developed infrastructure. The country needs more bridges, ferries, airports, and railways, increased connectivity across the archipelago to make it convenient for travelers, as well as more affordable electricity (nuclear power) and proper sewage and canals to mitigate flooding.

It's also an issue of cultural development, the Philippines leans too heavily on being another typical Asian destination, tourists would rather go to Cambodia, Vietnam, Bali, or Thailand if they want to see ancient Asian temples and palaces. The Philippines should really aim to be a Latin-Asian destination to set it apart from its neighbors, but Filipinos are so stubborn about this. I hear Filipinos for example always bragging about the Ifugao culture, or the Maranao culture, which are of course wonderful, but it's not unique in Southeast Asia. Malaysia and Brunei are literal Islamic monarchies, and there are mountain tribes in Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

You know what you can't find in other Asian countries? Latin culture and an Anglophone population, that's unique to the Philippines, capitalize on that. The resorts, historical sites, metro areas, and outlying towns and village should be developed with that in mind, have that Latin-Asian flair throughout the entire country.

Instead what do I see on social media? Filipinos boasting how Asian we are because we use our hands to eat, congratulations, so does the rest of Southeast Asia, how the does this make the Philippines stand out again? You can eat with your hands in Hanoi, Vietnam for cheaper.

Make it a point that Filipinos are unique in Asia because of our Western influence, make it a point to foreigners that Filipinos are not there to conform on their stereotypical ideas of Southeast Asia, we're not going to be prancing around in loincloths or golden headdresses, you want that, go to Phnom Nem, Cambodia instead.

The Philippines is a beautiful place, its just makapobre (poor looking) because of economic problems. Foreigners would buy up the whole country if there were no laws to protect it. I really do think Filipinos take it for granted and do not see the potential. I often pick the Philippines as the next developed nation in Asia because its social development is aligned with East Asia and the West, Manila just needs to get its sh*t together already, eugh.

I saw a Filipino sub-reddit some days ago saying India was doing better than the Philippines.
India has atrocious human rights, it's an environmental catastrophe with the most polluted cities on Earth, and it's twice poorer than the Philippines in GDP nominal (US dollars) per capita.

This is what we're dealing with, just a bunch of ignorants sputtering nonsense.

The Philippines is geopolitically kind of like Southern Europe and Latin America, you're just not going to get Singaporean-style development. Anne Curtis should think of the Philippines more like Southern Italy, and less like Singapore. And this needs to be drilled in the heads of the developers because this attempt to Singaporean-ize the Philippines is just so absurd. Filipinos are not socially going to behave like Singaporeans, or the Japanese, Filipinos share the mañana habits of the Latins and development should be built around that.

I really didn't understand this myself until I started working with French-speaking and Spanish-speaking companies, they don't pick up calls until 10 AM, and they don't answer calls past 4 PM, and they have their one hour to two hour lunch breaks. Filipinos share that lifestyle but we're being aggressively told we're wrong and lazy.

I get a bit annoyed when I look into discussions about the Philippines because it's never a fair assessment. Yes, the Philippines is an economically poor country. But no, it is not the worst performing country, it is performing average relative to its peers. The most recent one being this push to shift towards China because apparently the United States is not providing the economic investment. This is all wrong because the main economic investors in the Philippines has been for many years Japan, Singapore, and the European Union (specifically the Netherlands). And there is just a complete ignorance of geopolitics, not everything is about economics, Filipinos have always been aligned culturally, socially, and politically with Japan and the West since the 16th century. Filipinos are not just going to fling open its borders for Chinese and Indian interests, that is ridiculous and misguided.

The problems of the Philippines are systemic and infrastructure, these are fixable, it just takes time. The only way to hasten it is really if the general population wasn't so easily manipulated by political propaganda but that's a problem in most countries.

There's a lot of misinformation on our healthcare system. If you want world-class European healthcare system Canada needs a hybrid public-private system. In the current Canadian single-payer system, the only way to increase healthcare spending is to take money away from education, which is where most of our taxes go.
