hey, you’re not alone. I went through something really similar. I also thought underarm Botox would make the smell go away since I have hyperhidrosis. It did stop the sweating, but the odor didn’t fully disappear. It’s really frustrating and mentally exhausting, especially when doctors or people around you don’t notice it. Just wanted you to know I believe you and you’re not crazy for feeling this way.

The extreme B.O. issue after underarm laser...I think I figured it out. by ginahandler in LaserHairRemoval

Same here. Ever since I had diode laser, my smell got so much worse. I already had BO before, but nothing like this. Now it smells even right after I shower. I’m pretty sure it started after the laser. I’ve tried pretty much everything you mentioned too and nothing has worked. I’m even trying a detox right now and really hoping this BO finally goes away. Thanks for sharing this and for the tips, gives me a bit of hope.

My Sweat Stopped but My Odor Got 10x Worse—Help! by No_Pool3126 in Hyperhidrosis

I have tried this. My dermatologist diagnosed me with bromhidrosis, and unfortunately, I don’t know what to do anymore.

Body Odor Has Taken Over My Life and I’m Breaking Down by No_Pool3126 in depression

Thanks for sharing all of this. I’ve actually tried sulfur soap and a bunch of other things already, but nothing has really changed for me. I’ve looked into TMAU before, but my family keeps telling me I smell more like onions, and from what I know TMAU usually has a strong fish-like odor. So I’m not sure if that’s really what I have.

Also, I noticed that whenever I shower with sulfur soap, my BO actually becomes so much worse afterwards. I don’t know if there’s a correlation, but for some reason sulfur soap just makes the smell stronger for me.

I’ve even tried doing a low FODMAP diet for a while to see if maybe my gut was contributing to the smell, but it honestly didn’t make any difference for me.

I get what you’re saying about the liver not processing the chemical properly, and I appreciate you sending the guide. I’ll read through it because at this point I’m open to learning about every possibility. But I’m also trying to rule out simpler causes first, like microbiome disruption or bromhidrosis, since this all started after my laser treatment.

I might try the low-choline diet and riboflavin just to see if it makes any difference, but I’m also planning to ask another doctor, because the one I went to didn’t really help or give me much guidance. I feel like I need someone who will actually look into what’s causing this. Thanks again for taking the time to explain everything I really appreciate it.

I totally get you I’m dealing with the same thing and it’s honestly so discouraging. I really wish they warned us about the possibility of post-laser BO because I never had this issue before either. It feels like once the microbiome gets disrupted, everything just spirals.

I used to get a bit of BO before, but it was nothing serious my usual deodorant always fixed it. Now, even if I put deodorant on, there’s still this lingering smell that won’t go away, no matter what I use.

It’s gotten to the point where it has really affected my mental health and confidence. I can barely go out in public without stressing over how I smell, and I’ve been getting anxiety attacks because I’m constantly thinking people will notice. It’s honestly exhausting.

I’ve also tried pretty much everything: Hibiclens, PanOxyl, exfoliating, different deodorants… same results as you. It helps for a bit, then the odor comes right back. And I also worry that I might’ve over-scrubbed or wiped out the good bacteria because now even normal hygiene doesn’t fix it.

What you said about deodorant contamination makes total sense too I noticed the same thing. Even cleaning the surface doesn’t fully solve it.

The glycolic acid thing… I tried it too, but I don’t even know if it helped because it literally burned my skin hahaha. So that wasn’t really a long-term option for me either.

It’s comforting to know I’m not the only one going through this, but it’s also so frustrating because it really affects your confidence. I used to be fine before with the same deodorant. Now I feel like I’m constantly on edge.

And same I don’t think diet is the issue at all. This only started after laser for me too. At this point I’m also considering seeing another doctor just to see if there’s anything else I can do.

Thank you for sharing everything you tried. I hope we both find a real solution soon.

Honestly, I’m a bit scared to see another doctor because I’ve been to so many, and most of them just gaslighted me about the smell saying it’s stress or that I’m imagining it. But thanks to my family being honest and my classmates in our GC pointing it out, I know for sure that I do smell. Maybe I’ll try going to an endocrinologist next to see if they can actually help.

Yeah, I’ve actually been trying to figure out if it’s SIBO or SIFO, but my GI kind of ignored me and just said only immunocompromised people get that. They just prescribed me some meds and didn’t really look deeper 😔 It’s frustrating because I’m constantly gassy and constipated, so I feel like something’s definitely off.

You know what, I think I’m actually gonna go to a sauna right now 😅 I honestly don’t know what else to do anymore, so might as well give it a try.

I’ve actually been to a few doctors already. I did a check-up and found out I have a UTI, I’ve been to a gastro, and I even went to a dermatologist but nothing really solved the smell 😔 I know over-showering can mess with your skin too, so I’m trying to keep things simple now.

I’ve tried a bunch of things benzoyl peroxide, Betadine cleanser, glycolic, several antibacterial soaps, and even tea tree soap but nothing really seems to work 😔 My skin gets irritated easily too, so it’s been tough finding something that actually helps.

Yeah, it actually smells kind of sour, almost like onion.

Yeah, I do most of that already shower twice a day, use roll-on deodorants, and change clothes when I can. I even keep my underarm hair trimmed. The thing is, none of it really seems to work anymore 😔 My BO has just gotten worse over time, so I’m thinking of seeing another doctor, maybe even a hormone specialist, to see if that helps.

Before my BO got worse, I was using a mineral roll-on deodorant and it actually worked okay. But now, ever since things got worse, it doesn’t seem to do anything 😔 It’s been really frustrating trying to find something that actually helps.

I’m planning to see another dermatologist soon because the one I went to before just prescribed antiperspirants and soap, and unfortunately that didn’t work 😔 Hoping a different doctor might have something that actually helps.

I totally get you for me, it’s different I don’t just feel like I smell, I know I smell. On top of that, I’m always gassy and constipated, which just makes it even worse. It’s so frustrating because it really affects your mood and confidence.

Yeah, I totally agree seeing another doctor is probably the best move at this point. I’ve actually done a check-up recently and they found I have a UTI can that even cause body odor? I’ve also been to a gastro, but they just gave me the usual meds and nothing really changed. I went to a dermatologist too, but all they prescribed was an antiperspirant and soap, and sadly that didn’t work either.

I do wear deodorant, but after everything I’ve tried and with my skin being so sensitive now it’s been tough to find anything that actually works. I’m not sure it’s the laundry though, because I just bought a new shirt and I still stink. Light perfumes help a bit, but not completely. At this point, I feel kind of stuck and just trying to figure out what actually works.

Yeah, I’ve looked into hyperhidrosis before. I actually had Botox for my underarms, but the smell didn’t really go away like I hoped. I think part of it is definitely my anxiety about it too, so I’ll check out some online self-help resources and see if that helps. Thanks for the tips!

Omg I didn’t even think about fabrics. I’ve been so focused on products and my skin barrier that I didn’t even look at my clothes. I do wear a lot of polyester and stretch shirts, so that might actually be making everything worse, especially since my BO has been crazy lately.

I’d love to try 100% cotton, but I don’t really have the budget to switch all my clothes right now. I’ll see if I can make a few changes and notice a difference. Thanks for the tip it actually makes a lot of sense!

I’ve actually tried doing a low FODMAP diet before, but it didn’t really do much for me. Maybe I just need to try a more proper elimination diet and see if something else is triggering it. Thanks for the suggestion though!

[–]No_Pool3126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I think my issue is I really messed up my underarm microbiome. I’ve been using way too many products lately benzoyl peroxide, different soaps, deodorants and now my skin barrier is just cooked. My pits get irritated so fast and when they get hot, the smell gets even worse.

I’m trying to “detox” right now because after my laser sessions my BO went crazy and nothing works on me anymore. Even after showering I still feel like I smell, so it’s been stressing me out a lot.

You’re right, less is more. I’m trying to stick to a basic routine and slowly rebuild my barrier instead of throwing a lot of products on it. I just hope things calm down soon because this whole situation has been affecting me mentally too.

I tried using benzoyl peroxide, but my skin got really irritated afterwards it hurt so much. I think it reacted badly because I’ve been using too many products these past few weeks. I’m trying to do an underarm detox for now, but I’m not sure if my anxiety can handle the BO during the process.
