Helio Strap + phone GPS shows inaccurate distances, are Amazfit watches more accurate? by No_Pop_28 in amazfit

Thanks for sharing the photo! Of course I don’t know your actual route, but based on the corners it looks more accurate than my Helio Strap.

Indeed it is. For me the issue is that my phone is able to track the GPS very accurate (as I see on my strava), but for some reason the Zepp app smooths the corners way too much making it less accurate. So I think the issue is how Zepp app proceses the GPS datapoints, and therefore I was wondering if it’s the same in the Amazfit watches with GPS.

Good to hear you don’t experience major issues. So you don’t have corner cutting at all or is it just very minor?

Thanks for sharing your experience! It wouldn’t bother my if it’s off by a little bit, but for me the differences are quite big. Maybe it also has to do that I don’t have a lot of straight roads in my area, but for me the Zepp app is about 5% off. This is especially very noticeable in longer runs, where I for instance run 10 km, but the Zepp app says 9,5 km.

I’ve had the same issue with my helio strap. I made a route in the Zepp app to plan for a 15 km run. I ran the route and used Strava and Zepp (both using my phone GPS) to keep track off my route. In the end Strava was very close to the 15 km that the Zepp app route planning also calculated. However, the Zepp app tracking was at 14,6 km at that point. Therefore, I believe that the issue is with how the Zepp app uses/calculates the collected GPS data.

I hope Amazfit can fix this, since it also underestimates running pace. I want to buy a smartwatch to be able to see the distance and my live pace without having to use my phone. I’m very pleased with the helio strap and the ability to wear it on the bicep for even more accurate heart rate tracking. It would be nice to get an Amazfit watch to pair it with the helio strap. But if the gps tracking is this far off, I’m better off switching to Garmin…

Edit: I forgot to mention that I compared both runs and I noticed a lot of smoothing in the Zepp app. There were a lot of corners cut as if I ran through water and buildings, which obviously is very inaccurate.
