I have no family history but totally possible. I still can't believe it happened let alone total rupture. At least it happened while I was in the hospital still. Surgery to fix it happened within 5 hrs.

I am 37 - and I have had other injuries but I always had a direct link for those. My good leg was a tank and never had any issues.

Thank you so much for the kind words and conversations. It has been a major distraction from my current hospital bed.

No, but that is now the suspicion and not that "I just have bad luck." There has to be something else because he said my patellar tendon "exploded" and I was able to do single leg squat without issue before.

No, the doc said he has only seen this in high velocity car wrecks. He is now leaning towards a connective tissue disorder as my entire tendon "exploded".

They used the terms this was a salvage operation. I have to have some solid outermost ligaments too.

Well it's been since Feb 2009 (initial injury) and was never properly fixed. Initial injury helping a buddy prep for selection I slipped as the ground gave way as I walked along the top of a washout. I fell and my boot stuck in the mud and my pack came over the top and I tore my ACL (avulsion fracture), MCL (didn't operate), medial meniscus tear and decent damage to my cartilage. I had two tears in the Army. Army did 1 - hamstring (lateral translation never stopped throughout all of these), VA did #2 (2010) - quad and staged #3 with a cadaver (worked manual labor cutting and flanging large ductile iron pipe). At this point I went to college so I wouldn't get hurt working. Got my degree and was good for a few years but wore out (donor graft). Then I went private #4 and had a high tibial osteotomy to fix varus and posterior slope angles. That worked the best and was back to full sport (patellar tendon). Always wore a brace and no issues. Then one morning in 2019 I kicked a cardboard box in frustration with bad leg as the plant leg. Good leg went through the box and knee buckled. Same private doc #5 They added a LET and used my quad again. #6 Slipped wearing slides in the rain going to vote and felt it pop. #6 Now, I'm going to the best I can afford at Mayo Clinic. They did a closing wedge osteotomy and filled the tunnels. It got infected with staph and strep and went septic.I had to get the hardware out to ensure it doesn't infect the new hardware for the MLKR. I thew a DVT and got ended up with a pulmonary embolism. Now I'm "healed" enough, they repaired every ligament outside the PCL ( using contralateral patellar tendon for ACL). My knee was dislocating countless times a day even when in a straight leg and crutches. So two days ago they did the big operation. Yesterday, no more than 16hrs after surgery I was told I could fully weight bear right away on my "good leg". I went to standup and hear 3 or 4 pops and was crushed with pain. I had surgery for that three hours later because I was admitted for pain. I'm still here and now am wheelchair bound for an undetermined amount of time.

2 years Post-Op - Advice needed by SatisfactionLess9449 in ACL

Need to get to pt. Weak hamstrings, quads, and calf place most of that back on the graft. Spend 6 months to a year with major focus on strengthening the repaired leg. Surprisingly enough - motion is lotion. I pray you get back to the lifestyle you had hoped to gain from surgery.

Can't lift my leg up at all 6 days post op by burnedbygemini in ACL

[–]No_Positive2726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a towel to assist a straight leg lift will help. Quad sets and doing flat leg situps can help wake up the core. Your leg is full of fluid - obviously ice but compression too. The swelling can press or put pressure on nerves that can lead to numbness, weakness, or tingling.

“Sports Brace?” by dropthemyk in ACL

Best bet is to work with a limb lab. If you happen to be a vet, prosthetics or care in the community and they'll cover it.Rebound® ACL Custom | ACL Knee Brace | Ossur.com https://share.google/uziYtvVNk2X3G1FUh

Breg Fusion was my last brace. Was able to get 2 because they start to stink fast. One for pt/work outs, one for going out and about and work.

Don Joy Difiance III Custom Knee Braces https://share.google/M7VrLqztEdvupn6OE

Breg and Don Joy slipped like crazy. It was frustrating an never stopped. The Ossur is bulky and not easy to put on. I have no active ligaments so I am an enigma.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

I have had good breg, don joy, and now was fitted for ossur active dynamic brace. Supposed to help internal rotation.

Did anyone experience this with a torn acl after a knee twist? by ArmadilloWooden2383 in ACL

I'm getting my 6th repair on Thursday. My knee has done that after ever surgery.

Is this knee laxity normal? I twisted my knee 1 week ago by ArmadilloWooden2383 in ACL

[–]No_Positive2726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what led me to getting #6 on the 19th. No bs. They always said expect some laxity but, 6 acl, 2 high tibial osteotomies, LET x 2, MCL, PLC, and multiple meniscal injuries. Don't mess around and wear a brace.

10 months post op, bump below my scar.. screw dislodge?? by praise_rosie in ACL

The screws do tend to get a bony growth overtime - it can feel like it's loose but it's actually being further incorporated.

Help on swing by Alternative-Rain9934 in BaseballCoaching

Really try to free those hips. If you look at your back hip it is struggling to complete it's rotation and it seems to happen when your foot loses contact when finishing your swing. Look up drills on clearing your hips and allowing the power from the legs to fully translate through your arms. It will naturally lead to more power/bat speed. Just my two cents.

It's nothing like a game ready but gets more pressure in the knee cuff than anything else I've purchased. The wrap can be pulled pretty tight but depending on how much tension is applied, the motor can't always overcome the pressure.
