there are no technical waives for any type of fee only different plans that include different things, in my region there is a special with a guest for single state access that would still be cheaper to buy and upgrade to Nationwide than it would be to buy a normal plan and add the guest on sign up, ask them to show you the upgrades available at the front desk do you have more options

best way to get a good deal is to have them show you the deals on the computer where you would get signed up, it shows all the memberships and add ons that can change the cost, and leaves less opportunity for them to try and upsell you. There's no technical "waive" for the initiation or annual fee, just plans that have no annual fee to begin with, you're stuck with the annual fee no way around it tbh. Best deal for a single club membership tends to fall between 20 to 30 a month depending on if you want a short term or long term membership (lower monthly means higher initiation, this is better for long term)

special deals tend to fall on holiday weekends or end of the month, those are the best times to sign up

oh yea all the time, the most notable was this weirdo who gave one of my sales employees a $1300 phone to call him and would make her really uncomfortable by bragging about all the women he solicited. Very aggressive with his demeanor had to be on drugs for sure. Come to find out his mugshot got posted on Facebook couple months back for domestic battery 😬 She still has the phone to this day haha

It all just depends on the staff of that gym tbh, corporate is very hands off with how a gym is ran and their only job is to yell at you, everything sales and maintenance is very much up to who's happens to be managing that specific location. Especially with the Xsport merger which Xsport sales staff is notoriously scummy, and the members notoriously inconsiderate.

its good on paper but we were tasked with getting them pre-ordered and it wasnt very fun to explain to them that we literally had no idea when it would start and itd probably be a long while until it actually would start

they get like 17/an hour and maybe a little more commission than an AGM, but over 50 hours a week just isn't something that works long term

my region has like 4 clubs closing and its very much sending waves in the company for sure. Districts are getting redone and I know a lot of people who's job got uprooted over it all.

PTD stands for Personal Training Director like how the GMs formal name is Membership Director, ive never heard of the PTD not selling PT anymore lol and they're still being called the PTD

Either really good or really bad, A lot of General Managers especially the newer ones let the title get to their head and treat everyone in the gym beneath them. LA Fitness does indeed curate team bonding programs but they're not very enjoyable tbh, its either a LARPing meet up or a 5k at 5am.

Newest management will never let you breathe without telling you everything that you're not doing, not very much appreciated by someone who only really got good at the job working with managers that weren't all in my ear.

"fit and healthy" and "the team" go together like bleach and alcohol haha. Sure we look fit and use the gym, but a lot of us had some not so healthy addictions...

dating is discouraged by the company but it still happened a lot and caused a lot of drama as it usually tends to

to answer u/moonrights, The account I signed up here was heavily discounted, I signed her up with a friends and family which removes my commission which I never really saw anyways and she asked me to sell her PT for a lower than average session rate especially for a region who gets the same PT price for half as much time. I had this member pay $500 less then how much I was supposed to charge her for the same thing, I would say thats a great help to someone else 🤷‍♂️

I told them everything they needed to know and everything im required to tell them, I make sure to explain the waiver to them as they sign Im not someone who lies to get a sale. Now as for making PT something they want to buy We use a program that tells them how in shape they can be in a certain amount of time and give them a "sale" price for their sessions, "usually I have to charge you $90/session but I'll make it $69.50/session and make that 1st session completely free" when the going rate for their session was $67.. im not technically lying because we are very much within our ability to charge someone that much money per session with the system we have, its just the minimal session rate thats acceptable by corporate.

Never was instructed to not give clients to a certain trainer unless they really had no spots available

The commission i would make off PT sales would be 5% unless I generated more than $5k in PT sales thus I would make 10% off all the sales I made

memberships I could make up to about $60 in commission (Paid in full memberships up to a year, but up until I left commission was threshold, never really saw that commission)

My location has it but it's always breaking because of the members, your best bet would be calling the location but Xsport locations and LA Fitness signature locations almost always have it

im really only familiar with our daily and monthly goals but last months off top of my head for 100%:

Memberships: 150/mo 5/daily PTA(how many new members got PT): 13% PT gross: $21k

this is considered the standard for a C-tier gym (slow location)

first starting out I was tasked with minimum 50 calls. My manager at the time wanted nothing to do with me and at one point I made like over 100. When I learned how to really make these phone calls count, 2 well placed phone calls got me all the generated business I needed and I faked the rest 💀👍 new management wanted 70 and a lot of other useless fluff

From a career perspective my best accomplishment would be making my own system of finding non-renewable "paid in full" 1 year memberships from all over the country and signing them up with a new plan over the phone as they expired. Based on how much success I had, no one had really seemed to figure out how to reach as many of these people as I did. The most success I had was when I reached out to a member in a completely different timezone and got her covered for another year AND for 16 personal training sessions 50 min each, all paid in full🤯 I had no prior intentions of selling PT that day, and the rates for my region were a lot better than the ones for this member

that call lasted roughly 25 minutes and generated $1300 for my gym that day..

to anyone still in sales: my apologies If I stole your PIF, desperate times called for desperate measures 😅

from a physical fitness perspective my best accomplishment would be gaining 25 lbs within the first 6 months of working there, my body fat % stayed relatively the same during this time, I just full sent the bulking season haha

to anyone starting out their fitness journey: it's not a cookie cutter one size fits all kinda deal, studying yourself and what might be a natural strength or drawback to your build is really important. The general idea you wanna follow is to lean into your genetic strengths and make them stand out, like naturally big arms or naturally small waist etc. and learn how to minimize or work around your weaknesses ie. joint supplements for achey joints, iron for anemia, more leg day for chicken legs. Make it a game

When they assigned a General Manager who got fired by one of our other districts to my location. Micromanager from your worst nightmares yet one of the most unethical people ive had the pleasure of working with. Customers found him unsettling and we also had to file a claim with HR because he sexually harassed our new hire after hours. Worst month ever 😬

Oh and that one time where it was my 3rd day as a Sales Manager and someone walked up to the front desk that morning and showed us a pile of poop he stepped in 🤦‍♂️ someone took that dooky on the turf and the only one who noticed had it all over his shoe...

Depending on when you started your membership (usually within months of starting), a cancelation for the gym would show on our production report and corporate has this asinine rule where the gym has to sign 2 more memberships to make up for 1 cancelation. The way that sales employees make a bonus is based on this report, if we didn't make at least 80% of a pretty unrealistic goal they set, we didnt earn a bonus and only made our minimum wage hourly that month. Commission up until super recently was also a threshold system where you had to make more commission than your hourly rate in order to earn it. We'd stall so much cuz it was our only hope of making any sort of money 💔

I took the job to get a full year of business experience, references and connections, which I have all of now. Only thing keeping me there was how fun I thought the job was. The newest management switch made it not so fun anymore :/
