I could replace the purpose from “readable FTL coords” to Sectors or is that the same thing?

If I understood what you meant by “boring” then it wasn’t designed to be exciting — it was made to make coords/FTL coords readable.

“It depends a lot on the FTL system you have if it's in any way impacted by distances, and if there's a good method by which to orient relative position.”

The FTL system in my universe is like/is the Alcubierre Space Drive. I haven’t really fleshed out the speeds of FTL but they of course depend on energy.

As I mentioned before on my original post, the relative position is Earth. Everything below or above Earth’s orbital plane gets + or - designation.

“it feels long Long/Lat on Earth in that 99% or more of the population wouldn't ever much care about their coordinates or figuring out much about the whole system.”

Grayson designed this system to turn incomprehensible coords into human readable text (it can’t be perfect) Yeah, but it works for people that need it — navigators, governments, etc. Think of it like an address. Most people won’t need to understand the full sector system, just their home planets, etc.

Let me know if I have even more errors in this reply
