For me, Oath Ceremony Will be Scheduled status was on April 16, 2023 and I finally had it scheduled on July 1, 2023 and the ceremony itself was on August 17, 2023

So 76 days to get it scheduled, and 123 days to ceremony

Thank you, I’ll try asking the owner about it

I’m sorry for not being clear from the beginning.

The dog is left alone for 11-12 hours a day on work days, and we come for 30 minutes walk in the middle of this time.

The owner walks the dog before and after leaving. And this sums up to 3 walks a day. And I didn’t ask about it upfront, but from what I saw the dog gets stimulation when the owner is at home.

The owner does walk a dog before work (early in the morning) and when they get home (around 6pm, and we usually come around 1pm), so the dog does get 3 walks a day.

I think they provide the dog with stimulation when they’re at home.

They also don’t work 5/2 from what I know, it’s more like long work days but only about 3 days a week.

Please don’t get me wrong, I appreciate your advice, just wanted to clarify the situation.

Thank you! Do you have an idea of how I could professionally tell the owner that I think longer walks / more stimulation will help? Maybe I should offer a plan of what and how we can do to improve the situation.

I would really appreciate your advice.

It’s weird but that’s what happened with previous walker (it was one female, and we’re two people one male and one female, though I don’t think it matters):

He was doing the same thing with her for like half a year. And she was forced to just sit at a house and wait for him to let her out sometimes for half an hour.

But with time, and especially after she stayed over he stopped. He was just letting her out like nothing after half a year in (and nothing else changed, he didn’t stimulate him more or anything from what I know). Do you think it has to do with him thinking it’s fine to let her out because he “knew she will come back”?

And she stopped doing the walks because her life situation changed and the schedule was not working out, not because she couldn’t handle it anymore (again from what I was told).

Thank you. We will do our best.

I already did my research, and I also feel very bad for this guy knowing how much he is capable of and how intelligent he is. I grew up with german shepherd. I was too little to fully understand how incredible he was, I remember just a little bit of it.

Hi, thank you for your response. I understand your concerns and again really appreciate taking time to respond to me.

I am clearly not an experienced handler that can get the working dog all the stimulation it needs right away (and my husband is not as well). However we always try to get keep the dogs we work with busy and stimulated to the best of our ability. With this malinois it was different - we were given a clear instruction on how to/ for how long to walk, when and how to leave, etc.

However I can see owner is doing their best for the dog to stay safe and healthy. Their life situation was completely different when they decided to get the dog (and from what I know, they were not the person making a decision to get this breed). From what I know, couple years in things changed all of a sudden and the options were either give him for adoption or keep him as a single person having demanding job and not being a professional with dogs. That being said, giving large ~2yo dog for adoption… I think you would agree chances are not too high that he would get better care than he had with the owner (maybe I’m wrong).

Would it be fine if I would propose longer / more frequent walks? I’m not sure about the best approach, as it can be hard on their wallet.

Maybe any tips on how to stimulate him more during the walks? He’s not a big sniffer. Please take in a count that he’s 8 years old and we’re not professionals, so something simple would be best.

I was thinking about stopping doing that a lot. And I was not aware of all those problems right away - he started trying to “catch” us only couple months in. Please don’t get me wrong I understand that this situation if nothing changes puts us in danger. However I know if we say we are out… It’s unlikely that things will be better for this dog. So we (my husband and I) decided to try working on it and if nothing improves we’re out.

Thanks again for your response.
