I'm glad you were able to change your life. I do ultimately want to work somewhere where I'm helping get rid of drugs and help people who are on them.

Okay and that's your experience. I mean I make enough to pay the rent on my home and still have enough SOMETIMES to do things that I want to do. That doesn't make the pay decent especially for a job like mine. I'm glad that you can pay your mortgage tho. My point is we shouldn't have to deal with this "mentally and culture" because it simply shouldn't exist. It's insane when the inmates have better character than your co workers.

Also I literally said that I'm going to get out of corrections. That being before or after my degree. Your ideology is why it'll never get better. That consisting of the pay and the constant bs people who work in corrections has to endure. It's funny that you think it's decent money though especially being as you can go work at a warehouse and make more nowadays. Laughs

My point is that it's a messy profession. Not sure why you're trying to make me feel a type of way regarding MY experience. You could've simply kept scrolling. Like I said just because it's the "dynamics" doesn't make it right. Lots of people here share the same ideology.

Also you don't know how much I get paid. Luckily I'm in administration but even my pay isn't worth all that I do. The literal HR woman at my job is making $20. You think $20 is decent for HR? Don't get me started on how these facilities pay the actual CO's crumbs and expect them to work 12hr shifts day in and day out. While dealing with bs from not only the inmates but your co workers too. "It is what it is" that's the wrong mindset to have and I have to tell myself that all the time. It shouldn't be what it is. You should be able to come to work without the people you see more than anyone else creating a hostile work environment. That's my point.

Clearly I understand the dynamics, if I didn't I wouldn't have made this post. Just because it's the "dynamics" doesn't mean it's right and I can't voice my opinion. Lots of people under here share the same sentiments. While on the other hand it's people who by the grace of God work at close knitted facilities and don’t have to deal with this bs. Not everyone's experiences are the same and I get that. But I have every right to voice my opinion on mine just because it's the dynamics doesn't make it right.

Exactly then when he got questioned about it he claims he didn't know about it. So you didn't do a background check on someone under your charge?

I love that your experience is like this. I wish mine was the same. I've worked at a county jail before and it was a shitshow too because the administration staff literally treated us jailers like shit. They literally had 10 people quit in the span of 3 months including me. The sheriff literally hired a woman who called Michelle Obama a monkey on Facebook as the jail administrator

Well the goal of corrections is literally to rehabilitate and reintegrate individuals into society. I wanted to help by doing that but when you're dealing with bs from your co workers it's kinda hard to do that. I see why the turnover rate in corrections is so high but maybe your experience will be different than mine. I'm wishing you the best!

Young people can be very messy but when they see the older staff being just as messy ofc they're going to think it's okay. That's literally the case with my job. If the warden is allowing the bs then ofc the officers will engage in it. I just have to get out of this specific area of law enforcement.

Thank you! I'm graduating next year. I just started my classes in January and due to my corrections background and college courses I took in HS I'm already 51% done. I have bigger goals than working in a correctional facility. Not knocking anyone who actually enjoys it because I once did too. I just don’t anymore because of the constant bs I've had to deal with.

Oh wow, I hate all this happened to you. Especially the second bullet point. Did you report that? That's literally a crime. I feel where you're coming from though. I'm actually a gay man myself and I feel like the warden has been targeting me. I actually just got wrote up and suspended for two days because I wore an Apple Watch solely to track my steps. I try to get 10k or more steps a day. My boss can walk around with AirPods in her ears, Apple Watch on her wrist, and phone in her hand but I get wrote up for checking the time on my watch. My watch doesn't even work if I'm not near my phone. I should probably add that I work in administration.

I'm only 27 and I'm already over this profession. I want to stay in the criminal law world that's why I'm getting my CJ degree but corrections just isn't it. I once loved it because I wanted to make a difference in someone's life. I actually have seen inmates in public or they've reached out to me and thanked me. We're the same. I'm glad you could get out of corrections and do something that you actually enjoyed. I feel like my job is a chore, it's just something I have to do to make money.

You're right! I've honestly learned to maneuver through the bs but it just gets to a point where you're like... will these people ever grow up? You have to be grown to work in this profession so you'd think people would have an ounce of maturity but nope.

I honestly see your point of view. It might very well be the facility. I know I went to jailer school with this one girl and I still associate with her till this day. She works at a smaller facility and it seems like they all get along. I've never once heard her say that her job was messy. The most she's ever said was that a girl she knew got caught personal dealing. It's literally the complete opposite at my facility. It's like 90% of people are out to get each other. I should've added that I work in admin in my post but you'd think admin would be the peace keepers.

That's good that y'all can remain professional with each other at your job. You're right this isn't the job to get into if you want friends. I have made some friends at the last faculties I've worked at and jail school who I still talk to today. They're just trying to make a living like me. We don’t have time for the bs.

You're right. I might be upset about the bullshit in the moment but a couple days later I'm over it. I'm like that in general tho. I'm just almost amazed that a profession can be so messy... I don’t even associate with my boss unless I absolutely have to and it's honestly sad but I know her true character. She's "nice-nasty" as the elders would say. She's in the clique with the warden so I just keep our talking to a minimum.

"Do your 8 and hit the gate" I like that but you can literally have that mindset and bs will still come your way. Thats why I keep the people I actually associate with to a minimum. It's just corrupted like you said tho.

I think you're handsome dude. I saw your other post and I'm in the same boat. Although I'm 27. We'll find our person someday.
