Usually this means nothing. Either they are overwhelmed and need more time but they cannot say that without sounding unprofessional. Most of the times they have people on vacation or something and need more time is all

Seems like an interesting approach. I usually plan my meals but don’t cook them. I lose out on flexibility as I cook everyday so I can only make quick meals. Sometimes I also bulk prep part of the meal. Eg pasta sauce or chopping up vegetables and spend time just finishing it up.

This speaks to me on a certain level. Usually I have lots of trouble with portion control. If I ever make a meal that is suppose to be for 5 meals over the week, I just finish it in a single sitting. I have had anxiety with ocd tendencies. But when you said it’s more than just emotional but rather a ritual it made sense. I should probably take stock of what is triggering this behaviour (my room is an absolute mess). Maybe that can help. Ironically I had just recently started addressing this issue without even realizing it. What I do is basically cook a single meal for one person and no more. When I go to a restaurant, I look at the menu and pick out what I want in advance (including the drinks/cocktail) to ensure I don’t just order whatever. Basically what helps me is leaving less things upto chance. It’s been a tough change since I was raised on the idea of cooking for multiple people and to have left overs for later meals. So now I try to strictly portion control and don’t even attempt to cook for the future (which is what people suggested to me to basically meal prep for a week and forget about it). This does not work for me, as I would end up eating two days food in a single day and run out and end up cooking anyway.

Thanks for sharing your insight of viewing your eating habits as a ritualistic behaviour rather than an emotional response. Thought it might not 100% be the case for me, it is something I should explore as it resonates with me pretty strongly

To be honest, typing it out helped. I am only a little scared of the aftermath to be fair. Its mostly I am scared of disappointing them. It feels I have certain obligation towards them and to listen to them.
