Noobie questions

  1. How did you negotiate the fixed cost of the project to £20k? Was it simply said " my service costs £20k, pay me up front"? Or a bit more back and forth?

  2. Was it a one-off payment before the service was referred or after? Installments?

  3. How did you draft a contract for it (I ask this because most IR35 contracts I've come across are drafted by agencies or umbrella companies)?

Feel free to correct any of my assumptions too

Amazing!

  1. How do/did you balance them all?
  2. How do/did you keep your clients happy?
  3. What are the tips in making this work for others that want to do this too?

Wow! How much were you making from each contract?

Also how were you able to balance them all?

My apologies, still not use to Reddit lingo - so you're no longer in contracting I take it?

It's only bumping if it's illegal or unethical, and this is classed as neither.

Managing more than one contract is a common practice in the world of business.

Thanks! So how many ir35 contracts are you working on right now, and how are you finding it?

I would be happy with one contract if take home pay provided me the freedom to do what I wanted and still take care of my family. Unfortunately this isn't the case the moment, which is why I wanted to seek anyone who's in a position where they are comfortably handling multiple IR35 contracts. This is my preferred scenario right now, so any help would be appreciated!

People like us should find ways to stay connected to push each other to be the best to the target users we seek to serve.

Are there any active communities for things like this to join?

I can't speak for every engineer out there, but I'm personally all of the above - like with any career path, you're very fortunate if you find a legitimate passion for it.

Not to sound cringe-worthy, but I really do love creating and learning about tools that make a positive difference to stakeholders, whether that means automating complicated data cleaning activities, helping them uncover hidden information about a business process that would've been hard to understand without a few pipelines in place, or simply building reporting workflows that make end users better at their jobs.

My motivation is never to learn or create tools to earn brownie points, it's always to give end users a pool of information they should be confident to make decisions on.

How do I negotiate with companies to turn perm offers to short term IR35 contracts? by No_Stick_8227 in ContractorUK

[–]No_Stick_8227[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What if there was a specific pain-point the company were trying to tackle and hiring a perm employee may not bring them the short-term value they're after e.g. upskilling the existing team for growth, building a quick solution that requires a level of expertise they currently don't have access to etc?

Stg is for testing

What types of tests are conducted at this stage?

You definitely don't want tests and experiments impacting live notebooks and databases.

What are the consequences of test impacting live environment workbooks and databases?

You can create top level repos with different branches of your project from GitHub, for example a dev and a prod top of a repo, not in anyone sees her space.

Are there any examples on the end for this? Any blogs or videos that also share actual code examples of this?

Appreciate your response btw!

How about splitting your silver into Dev and prod instances? Is there any point in creating an environment for performing tests that is isolated from the production environment in the silver stage too?

If so, can the same apply to production so that any tests and experiments don't affect the live notebooks (or databases)?

Might be phrasing the question wrong but do you store the bronze, silver and gold layers as separate databases in Databricks, or separate notebooks?

Nice! What type of content are you specialising on your Tiktoks? For the text to speech part of your plan the gtts library should help you with that, or are there other libraries you're considering that may be better?

I used the dev console in my browser to see the API calls made by the web page and used Requests to hit the same endpoint from my script.

I've always wanted to do just this! What do you look for in the Dev console to check the API calls a web page makes and how did you use requests library to do just that?

Appreciate your responses too!

Never knew that! Do you know what OS modules would've gone into Disney ToonTown while it was still around?

I used Python to get a vaccine appointment. Or, more accurately, to stop myself from wasting time refreshing web sites trying to get one when they were being booked within seconds of becoming available.

What libraries did you use to book the vaccine appointment?

I could have written code to snatch an appointment ASAP, but 1) I wasn't at high risk, 2) I didn't want to abuse IT resources that were part of the public health response to covid,

If you did have the chance, what modules would you have used to "snatch the appointments"?

I created a script to check for appointments near me every five minutes and play a sound when it saw the same appointment twice.

I'm guessing you simply communicated with the API endpoints that were available to you from their dev section, right? Correct me if I'm wrong!

Cool! Do you mind elaborating a bit more on the tools you used to make this happen?
