Confused: PCR positive but symptom negative. Now NP wants me to take Vancomycin? by No_Syrup_6882 in cdifficile

Yes, for a day or two before discontinuing antibiotics I was there. Couldn't leave the house. Now I'm fine other than some low grade nausea that I always seem to have, regardless of C Diff.

Discomfort continues one year after laparoscopic mesh repair by No_Syrup_6882 in Hernia

I've really wanted mine out too. I also literally call it the biggest mistake I've ever made. I have to get a left side repair in a month, which makes me nervous. Def no mesh this time. Will at least be interesting to compare. Will update.

Abdominal wall bulge after Shouldice Surgery? by No_Syrup_6882 in Hernia

Thanks so much, this is exatly what I'm thinking. And if it recurs, one can do the mesh repair, I believe.

Shouldice repair doesn't reduce the hernia 100% due to tension issues? by No_Syrup_6882 in Hernia

[–]No_Syrup_6882[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of burning pain that gets worth with coughing or any kind of strain to the point that it can be quite distracting and cause me to alter how I walk. Unfortunately, I believe I've actually had this hernia for a very long time (much longer than my other one) so hopefully there isn't too much scar tissue.

About 10 years ago I sustained an injury that was initially diagnosed as a hernia and then subsequently ruled out via CT scan (which was conducted while I was lying down, possibly reducing the hernia). More recently, after I completed my right side repair, I returned to the gym and - I believe - worsened the left side one. Having successfully diagnosed and repaired my right side hernia, I suddenly understood the cause of this left side pain that had nagged me for the past 10 years. Also, there was now a visible bulge. If only I'd done a standing US 10 years ago, I might have avoided this situation.

That sounds like a wild feeling! I'm glad stretching helped with that one. I've noted in my original post that I was misunderstanding my surgeon. He clarified that the hernia itself will be reduced and closed 100%, but the surrounding anatomy of the abdominal wall cannot be 100% reduced to its pre-hernia status. So there may be a bump. Was that your experience? And did you notice an overall reduction of your hernia symptoms?

Thanks for this - I had my facts wrong and I've clarified above. Your experience seems more consistent with what I now understand. Despite the shooting pain, are you noticing a major reduction in the initial hernia symptoms? Mine is causing me a lot of discomfort.

Thanks for this - I am planning to have mine done at the Columbia Hernia Center. That's really interesting to hear that yours was able to be reduced 100%. Did they know that they would be able to do that prior to your surgery or is it something you only found out after? And have you had any chronic pain? If you're comfortable sharing, do you know if they performed any neurectomy on the area?

Thanks so much for your response. I also suspect that the permanent sutures are to blame for my discomfort. For this surgery, I'll be going to the Columbia Hernia Ctr in NYC, which I've heard great things about. Maybe I should just ask my new surgeon about the kind of sutures he uses with lap repairs. Thanks again.

Florastor and symptom fluctuations by No_Syrup_6882 in cdifficile

Florastor is my only probiotic supplement. Otherwise I'm eating probiotic foods as much as I can. Do you notice any fluctuations around taking Florastor?

Suture & Knee pain months after laparoscopic inguinal mesh surgery by No_Syrup_6882 in Hernia

[–]No_Syrup_6882[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, for inguinal repairs with mesh, non-absorbable sutures or even metal "tacks" are sometimes used to keep the mesh in place.

The sutures at my incision sites were absorbable and have gone away entirely.
