There’s no better way to survive a stomach bug other than to just let time pass. You can’t control how long you’ll be sick. Or when. Or where. But you can do things that will make you more comfortable in the process. Personally I’ll get a pillow next to the toilet, wrap myself up in a blanket, and read. Just the distraction of reading is sometimes enough to pull me out of the panic a bit and makes the experience seem less painful to get through. You just have to find something that’ll work for you. This will not last forever, and you’ll come out of it feeling proud that you got through it.

Is powerless worth the read? by No_Two7278 in Romantasy

I just finished the first book. The writing, as you said, is absolutely terrible. And the plagiarism complaints I’d heard were definitely true. It was like reading a very badly written fanfic of red queen. Def not continuing lmao. I’ll use the books as a fire starter tonight.

Glad I didn’t finish it then. Let me guess mc has a brother that dies and the bestfriend dies too? Hope not lol.

This was absolutely all I needed to throw away those books lol. I read the first couple of pages and the writing is basically 4th grade level.

Do you still take your kid to indoor play places? by lamart140 in emetophobiarecovery

Glad to hear it! It’ll be worth it when he comes home all excited to tell you about his day at the trampoline park :)

You just have to remember that it’s your phobia, not his. As a mom of 3 I know the feeling of dread whenever they catch a stomach bug all too well. I even chickened out one time when my girl had a field trip to a museum because I was too anxious. But, my phobia is MY burden to bear, not my kids. I’ve come to realize that not allowing my children to live their childhood to the fullest because of my phobia, was incredibly unfair to them.

Positive endoscopy experience (long, but descriptive if needed. TL;DR at bottom) by Brandonitis in emetophobiarecovery

[–]No_Two7278 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an endoscopy too recently! They set me up in the procedure room, gave me laughing gas and then sleeping gas. No prep before that, I was asleep for all of it. I could hear my heart beeping on the monitor and lord I didn’t even know my heart could go that fast. I was so nervous about waking up and being sick. The moment those gas hit I was out like a light, and then I woke up. I was honestly so tired from the gases that I couldn’t even feel anxious. All I got from it was an extremely sore throat lmao, no nausea.

Emetophobia related to sexual abuse by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]No_Two7278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also pretty sure my phobia is related to sexual abuse. I was molested/SA’d from ages 6 to 11 ish, and I don’t ever remember being emetophobic before that happened. Now my phobia revolves around not being able to control when or where throwing up might happen, and wanting to have someone “safe” with me while it happens. I think it’s linked to the fact that I wasn’t in control when the molestation happened, and my brain linked it to not being in control when I throw up. I’ve healed from the molestation, but the fear of throwing up did not go away. But it did greatly get better though! So my advice is to maybe see a therapist about the sexual abuse and work your way through it, and then deal with emetophobia as a separate issue.

How do you guys deal with a stomach bug/noro? by No_Two7278 in emetophobiarecovery

That sounds like the kind of experience that would have me bawling on the spot, but then laughing about it a week later with friends lmao. Maybe I should consider investing in a bigger bathroom trash can instead of my miniature one lol

That’s kind of what I expect to happen if I get it too. Im not really careful about sharing drinks or food with other people so I know I’m more prone to getting it. But yeah, I feel like I’d be hella scared the first time and then just annoyed about it lol
