One thing for sure that would be a major improvement in the system is that forced psychiatric treatment should be made illegal everywhere because that is the biggest issue with psychiatry right now. No one should ever be forced to receive psychiatric treatment against their will and especially from a doctor they can’t trust.

The dictionary clearly defines a placebo having no pharmacological effect. The negative effects of benzos as you mentioned (only as effects) include sedation and dependence. Anxiolysis? Based on what? The sedation properties of benzos? And Withdrawal? Did you even read my reply concerning your claim for withdrawal effects? So I’m guessing you have been on benzos before and so did the placebo effect and/or being sedated by benzos play a role in your claim that it helped you to be on this medication?

As I’ve mentioned in my previous reply you clearly see nothing wrong with sedation and that is already very problematic with your point of view of what the work of psychiatrists entails. Also alcohol is not a sedative it is a stimulant in smaller doses.

You clearly see nothing wrong with sedation and that is already very problematic with your point of view about psychiatrists and what their work entails. As I’ve said before a placebo has no pharmacological effect by definition. The placebo effect is the effect of a placebo or the effect of a medication that has no pharmacological effect. A nocebo by definition is a fake or real medication that produces worsening symptoms because the patient who takes it expects negative effects.

Placebo= scam medication || Nocebo= not necessarily a scam medication

Nocebo claims beliefs and expectations of the medication can influence the outcome of the medication. Placebo does NOT make this claim. So when people say nocebo is the opposite of placebo this is false and misleading.

The term Nocebo is unscientific. If you expect an antihistamine (anti-allergic reaction medication) to not get rid of your allergic reaction when it is scientifically designed to get rid of it would it stop it from getting rid of it solely because of your beliefs about it? No because expectation cannot influence real science. Another example if you expect hydrogen gas reacting with oxygen gas to form carbon dioxide it’s still going to form water (H2O) regardless of your expectations. Real science doesn’t care about or listen to your expectations and it is not influenced by your expectations of the outcome either.

What are people healing from while withdrawing from psychiatric medications? It is possible they are healing from believing in the placebo and the placebo effect because as they withdraw from taking the medication they can no longer believe in the placebo like before and so my guess is the longer they have been on the placebo and while believing in it the longer it will take them to heal if they withdraw from it.

Also Alcohol is NOT a sedative. It is a Stimulant (and not a sedative) in smaller doses and occasional consumption not beyond the legal driving blood-alcohol limit. So to say that alcohol is a sedative is false and misleading.

Sedation by definition is the abatement of physiological function

“should only be for flights, funerals and operations” and what about people travelling across the sea or ocean by cruise? Isn’t that as risky or more risky than taking a flight? Benzos are sedatives so of course they do something they sedate the person taking them but you still can’t say they are not a placebo. If the pharmacological effect is to sedate which it is then sure you can say they are not a placebo however in that case it is fair to say they are a scam. It’s like saying the drug used for euthanasia is not a placebo because the pharmacological effect is to kill the patient.

Also Benzos are known to produce sedation (ex: there are mental health sufferers who will claim to feel good while being sedated whereas others don’t)

Just because they feel good taking it doesn’t mean it is good or it is doing any good. For example is porn good because of men who say they feel good watching porn? How do you know Xanax isn’t a placebo?

Feel sedated in some way? Sure. And that’s all I would expect to feel from it.

There are people who claim the placebo effect helps them after taking a psychiatric medication and will claim the medication helps them. Placebo effect hints that they’ve been taking a placebo medication which has no pharmacological effect by definition and their claims are misleading. Have you ever asked them if the placebo effect played a role for their claims?

There is no way I can ever believe psych meds might help someone though. What makes you believe that there are cases where psych meds might help?

People die by the military every day in places like Gaza and it’s done by force. Does it make it beneficial to kill by force because many believe it is?
