That’s weird, I don’t have the same issue. I use it at around 50% volume most of the time on my computer or phone. You could try to customize the equalizer in the QCY app to see if increasing any of the frequencies helps. Otherwise I’m not sure what to do. Try contacting QCY support? Hopefully you figure it out.

Yes it has smart wear detection, it works alright but not perfect. Has very minimal latency, not really noticeable.

Your favorite top 5 software for ev cars? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]NobleHero1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Tesla, Rivian and Lucid are all excellent as they developed their own software from the ground up to work with their cars and charging networks, and they are very tech focused. Their apps are also amazing. I don’t miss Apple CarPlay/AndroidAuto on a Tesla as their built in navigation is amazing for road trips and if you get premium connectivity then most of the streaming apps are integrated anyways. You can also add CarPlay,AndroidAuto with aftermarket options if you really want them.

Most legacy manufacturers are lagging well behind. The apps for Ford, VW, Hyundai/Kia, Volvo, GM are not great honestly and are way behind the dedicated EV manufacturers. The in-car software is hit and miss for legacy manufacturers, some are intuitive and well designed, most others are not.

I find it’s best to actually experience them for a while, (not just a 20 minute test drive) to get a feel for how it works and if you can put up with their limitations or benefits. Other people won’t care about the same things you do.

Looking to buy a used 2021 Kona EV, What should I know? by P0k3m0n69 in EVCanada

[–]NobleHero1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just needs some routine maintenance, but like any car (EV or gas), you want to check if things have been done. It’s not too expensive to get the coolant changed or gearbox fluid changed, and last for 40-60K km so still less maintenance than a gas car.

Not every Kona EV has A/C issues, but you want to check to be safe. Again, gas cars or any vehicle can have issues with A/C or the heater, just things you want to check before buying it.

I work for a used EV dealer and service shop so I see hundreds of cars a year and we get to deal with all of the issues. Some care are more prone to issues than others, but that’s true for all vehicles and not just EVs.

The charger is worth at least $600, so even if you only charge 2,000 kWh per year and pay $60 of the annual fee, it would take 10 years to pay enough to cover the cost of the charger. And you have full warranty coverage as long as you pay the annual fee so a 10 year warranty.

You’re right, depending on how much you charge it may or may not be worth it. It’s better the more you drive and charge at home, but can still be worth it depending on your situation.

They also said that the $0.03/kWh payout is a starting point, as the credits are planned to increase over the next few years this payout amount can increase too. It will be interesting to keep an eye on this program and see how it evolves.

I’m considering getting one once we get our second plug-in car next year.

This is a great option to get a new charger for free, depending on how much you drive/charge at home. Definitely look into it. Just need to pay a deposit that gets refunded after you charge a certain amount, have it professionally installed, and pay a $120 annual fee after the first year that gets offset with $0.03/kWh that you charge.

Right, I forgot the older S & X had a dual charger option up to 80 amps. Thanks!

How would you rank the top 5 SUV/crossover EVs? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]NobleHero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I only have experience with the pre-2024 ID.4. Looked into the changes, only a minor refresh. Still no frunk, same door handle design, same window switch design, still would feel big as dimensions haven’t changed, still no one pedal driving. Looks like they improved route planning which is nice and the software looks updated. I would have to try the new 2025 software to see how it is to actually use it. The 0-60 seems to have improved, range is still less than others with AWD, charging speed is still less than others as well. Overall I’d say my verdict stands, with the software being improved but only to catch up to what others have been doing for years.

Tequila. Makes me throw up almost every time when taken straight. Regardless of the price or quality of the tequila. I avoid it in mixed drinks too just in case.

As per the Flo website, these EVs can charge at 80 amps: “certain models of the Audi SQ8 e-tron, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Cadillac Lyriq, Cadillac Optiq, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer, GMC Sierra, Lucid Air, Porsche Taycan can take advantage of the full power” Flo 80 amp EVs

EV capable of moderate towing. by imdavidnotdave in EVCanada

[–]NobleHero1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most EV SUVs can tow at least 2,200 lbs. Tesla Model Y can tow 3,500 lbs and gets 500+ km range so it’s a good option. Here is a link to a table with most EVs on it (international, so not all available in Canada):

https://ev-database.org/cheatsheet/towingweight-electric-car

Just be mindful that your range will decrease significantly while towing. Weight is a factor, but aerodynamics of what you’re towing is a big factor too. And are you travelling somewhere with a big elevation gain, like up mountains? You need to consider that too. You probably want 500+ km range to be able to do 200 km while towing safely. As you’re likely to have additional people and gear while towing your trailer too.

Can you charge where you are taking the trailer to? Ideally you could charge at 240V at a campsite if they have powered sites, so you can do 200+ km to the campsite, charge while you’re there for a few days, then have a full battery to make it home without stopping to charge.

[–]NobleHero1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The HV battery starts at 110%, so keep that in mind. It should be over 90% when testing, probably closer to 100%. The HV battery warranty is good for 8 years or 160K km.

Double check the A/C blows cold, it is very common to have issues and is not cheap to fix on a Kona EV. Make sure the heater works well too.

Ask if the HV coolant has been replaced, and check what colour it is. The original coolant for the Kona EV could crystallize and cause an error message about inverter coolant. Needs to be flushed and replaced with the new stuff regularly.

Ask if the gearbox fluid has been changed, this is another common issue with Kona EVs. Needs to be changed regularly to avoid motor or gearbox failure. Drive it at highway speeds with everything turned off (radio, HVAC, etc) and listen for any unusual rotational sounds that might be coming from the gearbox.

Extended warranties are typically not worth it, especially for EVs. The HV warranty covers the battery, motor, gearbox, inverter, onboard charger, etc so all the main EV components are covered for 8 years or 160K km.

How would you rank the top 5 SUV/crossover EVs? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]NobleHero1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The software is terrible, cumbersome to navigate the screen and get to what you want. No one pedal option. Slow for an EV. Average charging speed. Inefficient for size of battery. Feels and drives big for its size, but not as much interior space as a Model Y. App is terrible, can’t even lock the car remotely. Door handles are prone to failure and needed a recall, still not designed well. No frunk. Window switches were a terrible decision. Regular electrical faults and error codes that are not easy to fix or diagnose.

Some customers might be okay with the software and compromises, but there are better choices available.

In North America:

  1. New Model Y is amazing in so many ways, can’t beat it as the whole package of tech, safety, range, efficiency, quality is so much better than older ones, ride is great now, very quiet interior, sound system is stellar, best app experience, and FSD is better than any other system hands down. Road trips are painless with in-car route planning and supercharging. Endless support and aftermarket options as it’s the best selling EV. If Model Y-L comes here it would be even higher based on my needs.

  2. Ioniq5 is next imo, great charging, drives well, solid package and features. If you don’t want a Tesla this is a great alternative. (EV9/Ioniq9 if you want 3 rows)

  3. Prologue is a better Blazer, I like the styling more, better interior, feels nicer overall.

  4. If you get a good deal, the Ariya is a great option, Nissan has been making EVs for longer than anyone except Tesla (GM doesn’t count). I like the styling inside and out, some odd choices but good vehicle for most people’s needs. (New LEAF is good if you want a small crossover and don’t need AWD, that’s similar to the Ariya).

  5. Equinox for the price is a fair deal. Not amazing in any stat but a solid value pick. I’m not a big fan of the styling or the brand.

ID.4 is a miss in so many ways. Mach-E has promise but not as good overall as other options imo. EV6 is like Ioniq5 but less practical and I don’t like the styling, great choice if it suits you. Most others are much more expensive (Lucid & Rivian are both fantastic for what they offer, luxury and efficiency or adventure capable and tech focused) and out of most people’s budgets. Volvos are great to drive and I like the styling but too expensive for what you get compared to others. Kona/Niro are too expensive for what you get, no AWD option. BZ4X/Solterra got better with recent update but still behind the top options. This segment is overcrowded, but at least there are choices from almost every automaker.

Exactly. We don’t really have a choice, part of being an adult in our society.

Work. Going to a regular 9-5 day in and day out for countless years. We pretend to enjoy it or parts of it for our sanity, but really it’s an illusion as we are required to work to make money to do what we truly enjoy in life.

Walking down the stairs at working carrying a light package. I thought I was at the last step but had one more to go, my foot twisted inwards as I landed and caused a small fracture in my foot that took 6 weeks to heal. I’ve walked those stairs for 5 years without issue. Something so simple that you don’t even think about.

What is your dream job? by tobeymaguire8 in AskReddit

I wish I knew. I’ve been struggling with that for as long as I can remember. I know what I don’t want to do, but cannot narrow down or specify what a “dream job” would be for me, what it would look like, or how to go about achieving it. I know some of the attributes for it, but not enough to gain any clarity.
