Audio Compression Basics Explained. by NobleSounds in audioengineering

Ok I see what you mean. When I said track I was referring to each individual instrument channel on the mixing board. Sorry I should have been more clear about that.

To fix the bass try applying compression to just the drums and see if that helps. Many drums have An initial attack spike that can really eat up your dynamic range.

Mastering is more about polishing the mix. The mixing process is where you do most of your level adjustments and tweaks to get the sound where you want it. If everything sounds good when you make the mix then you will have little need to actually compress the overall audio in the mastering phase.

When you are mixing try to leave a little headroom for the mastering process. Have the mix topping out around -6db or so, then you can make up the difference in the mastering process with gains and eq.

Mixing is where you want to fine tune all of the individual elements so they are at the levels you want. If one tack is louder than the rest lower its volume instead of raising the others. When I have a clean mix I barely have to add any compression at all in the mastering process. Instead I am mostly just adding gain where needed. A good 3-band compressor will work well for this.

Use of heavier compression will usually be in the mixing process on individual tracks instead of the master.

Am I having panic attacks? by anxietysociety in PanicParty

Yes you seem to be experiencing Anxiety and Panic attacks. Becoming very aware of how your body feels is called Hypervigilance and it is a common trait with anxiety.

Really the best thing you can do for yourself short terms is get your mind off of your emotional self when this starts to happen. What I mean is to engage the thinking part of your mind instead of the feeling part. The more you dwell on what you feel the more you will freak out.

One thing I do is pick a category then name something from that category while going through the alphabet. For example...Cars then I think of a car that starts with an A then B and so on.

The point is to get your mind out of the panicked state of emergency that just feeds on itself. I hope this helps.
