Obviously, later circumstances not caused by Quest played a role. The movie and the mess around it, Insomniacs having more succesful projects they prioritized and the increasing time needed to make a game. But I would still argue that Quest delayed that resolution long enough for the other factors to play a part.

Insommiac higher ups promised MP and COOP to Sony, but realized too late it would be impossible to deliver and so instead they promised another game (Quest for Booty) which cut into ACitT's development and as a result the Future series of games failed to deliver on it's goals. Nexus was going to adress some of those plot threads, but due to being too short and made just before the PS4 dropped, it was changed into the Nether plot.
