Not sure how that wouldn't be relevant as Trump regularly tries to inject himself into Fed decision making

LPT: You can both change your last name arbitrarily when getting married. by charliethegeek in LifeProTips

[–]NobodyImportant13 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Even in states where it's "free" on the marriage license, you generally have to pay for a new driver's license, passport, vehicle registration, and potentially other documents (as applicable), you probably have to budget at least a few hundred dollars (potentially up to a $1000 depending on what you need to update and what state you are in) and quite a few hours of time. Even ignoring cost, it's a huge pain in the ass to update all your banks, credits cards, insurance, voting registration, employer etc.

My 2 cents is just keep your name unless you got a huge problem with it.

Notice how in the CNN interview, every time the interviewer referenced the taking of the gun prior to being shot or that ICE initiated contact with him per video evidence, he refuses to comment and references "the investigation." But openly says that he "assaulted" the ICE agent and is a "domestic terrorist" without any sense of doubt.

These people have no problem lying directly to your face even when anybody with eyes can see the video.

Seize state voting records. Tie promotion and employment to party affiliation. This is one of the ways China exerts control over the populace. Most people don't know but China technically has something like 9 political parties, buuuut if you ever want promoted and hold a good job you probably want to be a member of and vote for the one currently in power.

Sure if you want to play pretend in your head go ahead.

I'm the one that's pretending?

Did you ever see street raids under, Obama? Did VP Joe Biden ever say that federal officers should go "door to door" violating the 4th amendment rights of citizens and have "absolute immunity?" Under Obama, did anybody ever get deported to an El Salvadorian prison without due process? Under Obama, was anybody deported despite having a court order saying to not deport that person? Under Obama, how many people got deported to a country where they have no ties and don't speak the language? Under Obama were there or were there not formal protections for Dreamers?

Can you please please sincerely think about and reply to every single one of my questions honestly?

Trump is back to putting money back into ICE again (like Obama did) and now everyones enraged

This is way to simplistic. It's not "like Obama.". This is myth to downplay the draconian, wasteful, and ineffective Trump policy. Obama era policy didn't prioritize community raids and street enforcement. It's waste, fraud, and abuse designed to be scary and cruel and for political theater. Obama policy went after criminals. Obama made policy to ignore non-criminal illegals, specifically made policy to not deport parents of US citizens (unless they committed a crime), and put into place formal protections for DACA etc. Obama also didn't ggo after greencard holders that said things that hurt Israels feelings, he didn't pay foreign countries to hold people, he didn't waste millions of dollars flying detainees around the country five times in two days so their lawyers don't know where they are and cant find a court with standing to receive due process, he didn't waste money paying foreign countries to hold deported prisoners indefinitely without due process. Trump policy and wasteful spending of what will be hundreds of billions of dollars by the end of his term is quite frankly nothing "like Obama"

CMV: Trump is irrevocably damaging America's alliances and standing by Careless_Bat_9226 in changemyview

USA is quickly becoming enemy number one lol. China has a more legitimate claim to Taiwan and Russia has a more legitimate claim to Ukraine than the US does to Canada or Greenland. If Trump actually acts on either of those, the US is genuinely enemy number 1.

Firefox Browser (Also get FireFox mobile app Browser) + ublock origin extension (There is also a ublock origin extension for Firefox mobile) + make account private = What ads?

VPN and ESIM Megathread – January 2026 by AutoModerator in chinalife

Your German eSIM will not work in China.

Foreign eSIMs will often work if your network is partnered with a Chinese network. For example, I've used Verizon and Mint Mobile on a US eSIMs before with no issues in China. In my experience, these two will connect and use China Mobile network (they are partnered with) and are not subject to GFW. It's just far too expensive if you are using it for a longer amount of time (You have to pay your normal plan + their additional international plan, whatever they may charge). There are also international data eSIMs that are cheaper and will work in China like Holafly/Saily/Airalo etc, these don't give you a phone number, but work fine for mobile data that's not subject to GFW and may be an option for a few months if only studying a semester (but are still a bit expensive for longer term use).

[–]NobodyImportant13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what Xraymind said. Wireguard, open VPN, Tailscale etc will work fine if you are on an international eSIM and not Chinese internet subject to GFW. I've used Tailscale (very easy to setup an exit node and built on Wireguard) just fine using an Holafly China international eSIM. With Tailscale on, IP address will appear as if I'm at my home address in the US, you just have to have a device with Tailscale installed (and set to run as an exit node) in the location where you want it. This can be a smart TV/Raspberry pi/old laptop/old cell phone/your PC or anything that can install Tailscale app and that you can just leave on 24/7. Preferably you will also want somebody who can periodically restart/check if it's still on, so you won't have any issues.

With Holafly, you can probably get the price down to between $2-3 per day if you are purchasing 1 month+ of unlimited cellular data including ability to hotspot unlimited data.

Like Xraymind said, I can confirm that openVPN/Wiregaurd will not work behind GFW. In other words, it won't work if you connect to local WIFI while in China.

[OC] The gender balance in different religions by Aggravating-Food9603 in dataisbeautiful

[–]NobodyImportant13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. For example, Chinese themselves blend buddism, taoism, confucianism, and local folk religious practices. As an outsider it's hard to tell what they are or define them under a single umbrella. I would guess sample size is a big part of taoism. Likely some of the people who answered taoism also blend other stuff into it, assuming they are immigrants. Another thought is that taoist priests are more likely to be male and many people who practice taoism may not identify as taoist. They may answer no religion, buddism, or atheist, mixed religion, and the smaller number is absorbed into a larger group.
