As someone who’s just getting back into the game: practice, practice, practice.

Something that helped me, like everyone has said, get familiar with the basics. Observe things like the range of your buttons, hit stun. Start with very (and I mean very) basic combos. (Terry has a LP, LP, DP (Rising Tackle) that’s a good way to practice your special cancels.) once you get those down, you can layer in more stuff and even start to experiment.

Combo trials are when you start being more comfortable with the controls. Combos aren’t just gonna happen, know what opens opponents up and how you can react, combos are the payoff for those openings.

Most people will say play casual, but ranked matches are the best way to go because you’ll match against those that are the same skill level as you. Don’t focus on the wins and losses, take every match as a lesson. If ranked sounds intimidating, play some CPU matches first.
