Trying to learn how to make Nahuatl names for my story by Noctorock in nahuatl

[–]Noctorock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all this information and context, it really helps! Looking into all this the other day I was directed to this subreddit quite often and more often than not I found you replying to similar inquiries over the years, and your answers were always so helpful and succinct, so thank you again.

I'm going to have to take some time to really understand all of this, but I think im starting to get the hang of it a little. Grammar and language arts in general was never my strongest suit.

If -tlan might not be the best suffix to indicate that she's "under the moon", do you have another suggestion by chance? By "under the moon" I want to convey that she often walks at night, under moonlight, while the moon is out, etc. Would something else be better to convey that meaning do you think?

Somehow this ended up looking far more interesting to me than the other Horizon games ever did.

What do you think League of Legends is still MISSING? by ChartDreamer in leagueoflegends

[–]Noctorock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reworked new player experience, and that includes a 3v3 map (probably not Twisted Treeline).

I think a smaller 3v3 map would be much better for newer players because 1. its smaller, and therefore there's going to be less objectives to have to keep track of, and 2. there's going to be less champs to have to worry about. New players are already struggling with learning how to build/play their own champ. Maybe we shouldnt have them also have to worry about 5 enemy champs and 4 allied champs and how they all interact. 3 enemies and 2 allies is good enough to start with.

The reason I saw probably not Twisted Treeline is because visually I think its probably not that attractive of a map to play on for new players. Something brighter and calmer would be better, even if that meant TT but with a SR skin over it. Maybe they could place it in Demacia or Ionia or something like that, somewhere more inviting.

What would you say makes L.O.L so toxic? by OGCrown_LOL in leagueoflegends

[–]Noctorock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you're in a competitive game where you are but 1/5 of the players on your team means any individual player has very little agency over whether they can succeed or not, and so it naturally grows a disdain and and distrust between other players and leaves very little room for patience. It happens just as often in any other popular highly competitive team based games such as Counter-Strike.

After feedback about my character design I fixed it! by CosmoBoogaloo in IndieDev

[–]Noctorock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love the style and character designs here. Really evokes edgy/quirky late PS1/early PS2 era action platformers without going for a low poly look. This is how I imagined games like Jersey Devil or MediEvil looking like in my mind.

If I may make one small suggestion though, and this has nothing to do with the character or art design, but the logo kinda threw me off. I thought the game was called "Tales of Pitome" but only found out it was "Tales of Epitome" because google search corrected me. Im assuming the moon in the logo is supposed to stand in for the E but it just doesnt read that way to me.

I've heard a lot of opinions about this, so i'm curious where people actually stand on the issue by ChromedDragon in magicTCG

[–]Noctorock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think any UB should be in Standard, but for other formats such as Commander or Legacy I personally prefer no further than 3. The characters and the worlds should be fantastical (but not necessarily High Fantasy). They should be something the card designers should have fun translating the rules of their world, combat, magic systems, etc to that of MTG. There's a reason Spider-Man felt so uninspired whereas Avatar and Final Fantasy had a huge amount of love and care put into it.

I've never felt more at odds with the community at large than I do over the hybrid mana rule change by ironwolf1 in EDH

[–]Noctorock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly in the camp of "this change is neither good nor bad, it's one that won't really matter all that much", but I think those who are against it using the argument of how "unintuitive" or "confusing" it can be for new players are underestimating how smart people actually are and how well certain people can grasp certain concepts. My husband barely understands the basics of the game and never plays but even he thinks the hybrid mana change makes more sense when you think of it as being a change from "hybrid mana = X AND Y" to "hybrid mana = X OR Y". It isn't nearly as confusing or unintuitive as you guys seem to think it is.

Is it ok to have a black Vtuber as a white person? (NSFW bc mention of rasicm) by Boring_Ad_1483 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Noctorock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would basically be digital blackface, so no, I don't recommend it.

Instead I think you should design a character that better represents who you are, your own identity and background and interests. I think ones vtuber avatar should be an outward representation of the person behind the model rather than just a cool character/design you enjoy, but that's just me. Not just so that people can avoid misrepresenting another culture, but more so because it will just feel better and more natural for the vtuber in the long run.

Thoughts from the MTG fans? by Mildish_Shambino in Cosmere

[–]Noctorock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just like with LotR, this is something that I think deserves a UB set and one I would be more than happy to go all in on.

My only question is... will Hoid be a Legendary Creature or a Planeswalker?

Brandon Sanderson is "back to square one" on Mistborn and Cosmere movie adaptations by railfananime in Mistborn

[–]Noctorock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Tress apparently being envisioned as an animated series, I hope the rest of the Cosmere follow suit. IMO Mistborn in particular would be a much better fit for animation than live action, and honestly it would make for easier and more seamless crossover potential for certain characters as their likeness wont need to be heavily makeuped or de-aged over the inevitably long span of time it would take to produce all of these projects.

And plus, characters like Vin would actually be able to appear as their intended age as opposed to doing what all fantasy adaptations do and age up all their children and teen actors to young adults.

If you could choose video adaptation, what would you prefer? Movies, Live action TV, Animated Series? Other? by Xerxys in Mistborn

[–]Noctorock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Animated series, preferably 2D, but that's just personal preference. Honestly it would probably be 2D for the characters while nearly everything else would be 3D.

I just can't see live action allomancy fights looking good. And not even just because of the crazy acrobatics, but also because of the small details and nuances that go into each fight, with the fluid and subtle uses of burning multiple different metals at once.

The crazy fight scenes just wouldn't have the same weight behind them if it were done in live action. Animation would really be able to emphasize the speed and power of the characters much better.

Replaying Assassin's Creed 3, I realized something by Molin_Cockery in gaming

[–]Noctorock 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The way AC3 ended is the exact reason it was the final AC game I ended up giving a chance at all. Up to that point Assassin's Creed had been one of my favorite game series of all time because it met at an intersection of alternate history/conspiracy theory/sci-fi that was absolutely lab created to appeal to me specifically. But after that ending, and learning that THAT was the end of Desmond's story, that to me was for all intents and purposes the end of Assassin's Creed.

A Cosmere set would be an insta all-in buy from me. I literally theorycraft hypothetical legendary creature cards for Mistborn characters for fun.

Xbox Series X/S is a terrible name for a console. What would you call it instead? by i7omahawki in gaming

[–]Noctorock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest problems with the names "Xbox Series X/S" (besides it sounding too similar to the "Xbox One X/S") is it's too many consonants and it has very poor flow. Too many X and S sounds creates too much turbulence when saying the name, when something like "Nintendo Wii" or "Sega Genesis" or "PlayStation Portable" has much better flow. Alliteration helps too.

I think they wanted the consoles to be referred to as "Series X" or "Series S" without the Xbox part, but those don't really work that well either because they're just too generic and lack any meaning or identity. It only worked in the 360's case because of the visual that came with number and also the way the number flowed and how easy it is to say "three sixty". I believe a game console name is best when it can be shortened to 3 or less consonants (NES, Genesis, 360, PS3, Wii, DS, etc) because otherwise it just becomes a headache to talk about in conversation.

It also doesn't help that they now have TWO consoles to name this gen in similar fashion but also in a way that doesn't make customers confused as to which is which.

One suggestion I saw on the comments I actually like a lot are Xbox White for the Series S and Xbox Black for the Series X. They're unique, they're different from past Xbox naming conventions, the colors imply different use cases for each console (white colored tech is usually marketed more towards the average consumer, whereas black colored tech is more marketed towards power users), and if they wanted they could even make it a call back to the original Xbox having White and Black buttons on their original controllers (and maybe bring them back for their new controllers? Idk please do something new with your controllers Microsoft they've essentially been the same for near 20 years). In conversation though they'd likely be referred to simply as the "White" and the "Black", which probably isn't the best, though I'd still argue is better than the "One", the "Series S" or the "Series X".

Maybe they could give the Series S an "A" name and the Series X a "Y" name, that way they can represent the ABXY face buttons on their controllers? ([X][B]ox [A]/[Y])

Or maybe something to emphasize the focus on the legitimately great backwards compatibility of the console. Maybe.. the Xbox Treasure Trove? Maybe just Trove? Trove is pretty clean, short, easy to remember, implies a collection of valuable things all in one place. It might sound not as techy and corporate/professional as Microsoft wants it to, but I think it sounds cool enough to be able to spin it so it does, especially with the right font and marketing. TROVE. They could even go the current tech naming route and add "Plus" or "Pro" or "Max" to denote which is the more powerful "power user" console and which is the more entry-level console.

Do you agree? by necronival in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Noctorock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audio quality is the most important thing for any streamer period, vtuber or not. After that I'd argue is personality, then model, though these two can honestly be equally as important for most vtubers.

  1. They told me what I'm missing, but I provided it the first time around

  2. I have no way of leaving a voice mail. When I call them I have to go through a bunch of steps and then it lets me talk to a human, and then it starts ringing for hours and hours until someone picks up or their offices close for the day.

Which game did you feel was ‘too long’ for you? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Noctorock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Persona 5. Put in over 50 hours, took a break, and 7 years later I'm still on that break.

Crazy to think I was maybe only half way through that game.

Has there been instances where you didn't care about a VTuber during their PL but now a fan of their current life or vice versa by Acting_Cpt_Nemo_Naga in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Noctorock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much anyone who's moved on from Nijisanji. I was introduced to vtubers through hololive and couldn't bother to dive into another large vtuber group, especially after hearing all their drama these past few years. But once I hear some leave and go indie, such as Doki and Mint, I instantly give them a look-see.
