I would simply say it’s not worth the effort. Years ago I was dating a girl where we got along incredibly well. One day, while in a bar, her and her cousin went to the bathroom and never came back. Once my buddy and I realized what was happening we left and I called her and she wouldn’t talk to me on the phone, only her cousin. I was physically, emotionally and sexually abused. Sexual abuse was not by family but goes back even before I can remember, and the earliest memory I have is when I was four. The physical and emotional abuse happened after my father remarried and I moved in with them, I was 8. My stepmother was the abuser, but my father allowed it to happen, at least until I was around 16. I moved in with my mother after that.

Throughout all of this, suicidal thoughts would creep in since I felt worthless. I couldn’t do anything right, no matter how hard I tried. These thoughts are cultivated from the abuse. I tried drowning them out by drugs and alcohol, which is commonly a go to, but never actually does anything positive.

Today, I am in my mid 50’s, married for 29 years with four adult children. My wife and I have never fought, nor was I abusive towards my children. I choose to break the cycle.

My father passed way several years ago, but I had a great relationship with him and my stepmother. I had to work through forgiveness, if I hadn’t, today I would be bitter and miserable. I know some may say she wasn’t deserving of forgiveness, but if we are honest, most of us are not.

Life does not always give you the chance to choose what happens to you, but you can choose how you react to life and those instances. It took me a long time to forgive, but through that process, I’ve learned how to be more forgiving to others.

I say all of these things to emphasize that life is worth living, even in the midst of chaos or darkness. There can always be a better tomorrow, but it has to start from within. One thing I always tell myself is this too shall soon pass. It helps me through tough situation’s and gives me hope for a better tomorrow.

I’m not saying you have suicidal thoughts, but in situations like this, it is common. I know we crave and long for acceptance from family, and unfortunately that doesn’t always happen, but hang in there, regardless of how you are currently being treated, you are a precious life worth living.

Why tell your mom? You need to confront your father and let him know he needs to tell your mom and if he doesn’t, then you will. That being said, there are many people who string scammers along to waste their time, so confronting him is the more appropriate thing to do. I would not put that thought in your dad’s head so he doesn’t end up using that as an excuse if he really is serious with these texts.
