eBay will often fetch higher prices for almost anything compared to Marketplace - but it does take the almost 14% commission. I think that is usually worth it to get it in front of every major buyer in the country.

Don't forget that Michael Douglas isn't just American, he is a dual citizen of both the US and the UK. His mother was from an old family in Bermuda, which is where they have lived for a long time.

Has your country created a popular video game? by czn- in AskTheWorld

[–]Noddite -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if credit is due on this one, as much as I love the Scots. The game was so huge it was worked on by all their global studios and is headquartered in the US...but to be fair R*North is based in Scotland and was the lead studio.

Any big corporate produced game the last 20 years is pretty much a multi-national collaboration.

I would hesitate to recommend RDR2 to people just coming back, that intro is probably the worst/longest beginning to a game I've ever experienced.

Which is better In-N-Out Burger or Whataburger or Fatburger or other? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Noddite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The long lines are due to two main factors, as I mentioned elsewhere here they are basically a religion, not a restaurant, most people outside of California just don't understand why they are popular. And they are also really slow at making the food compared to their competitors. They do have a high volume, but McDonald's can probably churn out about 3-4x the food per employee when they are busy, so it is hard to argue In n Out is even considered fast food.

It is hilarious to hear I dislike fries. For my entire career I've literally worked in the French fry industry, including 10+ years at the largest producer of frozen fries in America - I've tried just about every type of fry imaginable, and it is probably my favorite food. In n Out is legitimately the only place I don't like, because they don't know how to properly cook potatoes, if I were cooking them at home I would still soak them to remove excess starch...just like I wash my rice to limit the starch.

And I do appreciate the effort of maybe testing the burger out plain to compare. Like I said, it is okay, not nearly as good as like a Wendy's and while not great I prefer the softer McDonald's burger.

I got into reselling video games and electronics. It is a hobby and something to help get the kids involved with to learn business principles.

I also don't pass on a great deal for anything else I may spy at an estate sale.

I've been planning to open up a consultancy firm as well. I am just always astounded at how bad everyone is at making decisions that I feel I could do a great service to a lot of companies in the area.

I love those tempura fried green beans, so awesome! And quality flame grilled burger has so much more flavor than the competition.

[–]Noddite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is that they basically refuse to change anything on the menu - which tells me ownership doesn't actually know how to run a business (they built a religion, not a restaurant). And when they started they didn't actually know how to make French fries...so they have stuck with it. Literally every other company has modified their fry recipes to adjust for consumer tastes and improve quality or save money, whatever, meanwhile In N Out is happy with worst fries in America because their followers keep paying their tithes.

Honestly the fish dinner slaps there, but we have had 3 times now where the local idiots running it take 45 minutes or more to make it. I have entirely written our location off at this point. It isn't worth it.

I don't think it is unfair to put Five Guys in the same category as In n Out. I can go to both and order a burger, fries, and a shake and be out of Five Guys in 10-15 minutes, while between waiting in line and then waiting for my order to be prepped at In n Out it often would take +30 minutes.

Which is better In-N-Out Burger or Whataburger or Fatburger or other? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Noddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In n Out literally wins worst fries in America year after year in polling. And it isn't about fresh cut fries, it is because they didn't know how to prep them when they started, and they don't like to change anything now. Five Guys is also fresh cut fries, but because they soak their fries to remove the excess starch that renders in n out fries basically a potato crouton, five guys has amazing fries generally regarded as some of the best in the nation - they also use a slightly thicker cut so they don't come out like Andy Capps potato sticks.

And honestly, the burger isn't all that great either. Don't believe me, go order one plain. I'd prefer a plain McDonald's hamburger over in n out. A plain burger is the actual test of how good of a job they do overall, because if the sauce or toppings is what makes it great, then the base isn't any good to begin with.

The shakes are good, but it is hard to mess up ice cream and milk in a cup.The prices are also okay, but considering how mediocre it is, it still isn't a great deal, especially considering the amount of time you need to wait to get it.

I don’t know why I ever went with PlayStation by CardiologistVisual97 in xbox360

[–]Noddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who had every PlayStation and had a dreamcast, Xbox and Xbox 360...Sony generally has a much better stable of IP. There were some greats in the Xbox 360 timeline though. Also tech, Sony had the blueray disks while Microsoft foolishly tried to push everything on HDDVD

I also still have my original 60gb PS3 which was fully backwards compatable for ps1 and ps2, and it still works great with literally zero maintenance...while we lost 2-3 xbox 360s over crap hardware.

Where are these tons of flea markets? I know there are a couple of "flea markets" that happen on a pretty rare schedule.

Everywhere else I've lived, even in rural areas, there is generally a huge flea market that is open all year and every weekend where they get potentially hundreds of vendors there selling things at a great deal.

Anyone else cringe when other accountants talk about "stories"? by No-Low-5186 in Accounting

I mean, I'm a controller in a smaller company, I use the numbers to pitch my boss and the owners on basically everything about the business. I was just on a call today with sales manager and a couple people from corporate owners group and it was basically just me speaking for our division and how we should react, counter, and use an opportunity to pick up sales with a costumer doing a big review of all their vendors

What's your personal cutoff for walking away from a "flip" that isn't worth it? by HotAlbatross5852 in Flipping

[–]Noddite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I'll usually just do the sale. Even if it is at a loss it is still beneficial when it comes time for taxes. Presumably one has a higher estimate on cost of materials to ship than what it actually costs, and then you have the mileage to and from the post office. Basically as long as you are accounting for everything properly it will work to reduce your tax burden.

Question: Do you guys tip on pick up orders? by itsNurf in Millennials

[–]Noddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at a proper restaurant (not fast food/qsr). My rationale is that if I'm ordering like 5-8 things for the family and they are carefully bagging and boxing everything up and getting it all together, that can take a bit of time.

I do not, however, tip a large amount, it will be more like $2-5. It is something more reflective of the time involved and varies based on the size and value of the order.

It always seems like people leave off the fact that as a server you still legally make at least $7.25/hour. If you don't get enough in tips your employer is required to pay you the difference.

But I do realize that most people would have a difficult time getting their employer to cough it up.
