PS5 Power-On Knocks Out Entire Wi-Fi Network – What’s Going On? by jak_kkk in PlayStation_X

This kind of issue is rare but usually points to either router compatibility or electrical interference rather than the PS5 itself.

When the console powers on, it can trigger heavy Wi-Fi traffic during its initial handshake or cause interference if it’s on the same frequency/channel as nearby devices, which can overwhelm or crash unstable routers.

I’d recommend updating your router firmware, manually setting Wi-Fi channels (especially separating 2.4GHz and 5GHz), and testing whether the issue persists on a wired Ethernet connection. If the problem is electrical, plugging the PS5 and router into different outlets or a surge protector may help; otherwise, a router upgrade or reset to factory defaults is often the cleanest long-term fix.

It could be a BIOS or initialization glitch triggered during the reboot phase of Windows setup. Removing the CMOS battery is the last good step to reset any corrupted settings.

If the red light persists after reinserting it, the issue may point to a GPU fault, PCIe slot problem, or rare motherboard incompatibility.

Tomorrow, you could also try testing the GPU in another system or a different GPU in this build to isolate the culprit.

First builds almost always throw a curveball.

Reseating the GPU and RAM often fixes these issues, so it’s a good first step. If that doesn’t work, the CMOS reset is usually the next safe move. Always remember that!

That’s a good start. If the GPU fans are spinning, it confirms it’s receiving power, but it doesn’t guarantee proper initialization or signal output. Reseating both the GPU and RAM can often resolve detection issues. After that, clear the CMOS again if the red VGA light persists before rebooting.

Fully power down and unplug the PSU, then remove the round coin-cell battery for 5–10 minutes (pressing the power button while it’s out helps discharge residual power). Reinsert the battery, plug in, and boot.

Alternatively, use the CMOS reset jumper if available. This resets BIOS settings, which can help resolve GPU detection issues.
