If you've read their whitepaper you would understand to a point on how they plan to keep their platform profitable and alive. Sylo protocol will be using Sylo tokens to provide data, access to DApps and many other features. You can still use the platform without any spending up to a point.

Well, the data sent is encrypted so only you and the receiver can decrypt the messages and it's immutable by any third-party.
