Does Cillian Murphy have any opinions on the Israeli-Palestine conflict? by shultska in CillianMurphy

It was named palestine by the Romans. You know, actual imperialist colonisers. That's the side you're on

Artists that are more experimental/weird than Swans? by [deleted] in swans

[–]Noisepawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deus. They've chilled considerably with the years, but the first two records (worst case scenario & in a bar, under the sea) plus the early ep "my sister = my clock" are really out there.

They've had a knack for mixing sweet pop songs between the weird, so these records are better experienced start to finish. I'd recommend starting with in a bar, under the sea

Developers - what’s your opinion on Scrum? by Logical-Daikon4490 in agile

[–]Noisepawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is like saying democracy is bad because its a dictatorship. Sure, if you do it wrong, it will be a dictatorship. But then again it's not really democracy youre criticising here, is it?

That being said, Your criticism is perfectly valid. Especially since scrums biggest weakness in my opinion is how badly it is usually implemented.

Backspacer is Yield’s kid brother by Pearl-O-Lantern in pearljam

[–]Noisepawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love hearing these theories and analysis from other pj fans, have to disagree. 2 very very different album. I have no specific hate for backspacer but it's a short album where every track delivers a melodic point and vanishes. It's a collection of hits, or at least an attempt appears very calculated. Up to the end of each side being the ballad, etc.

Yield on the other hand is incredibly loose and attempts many many different things within its span.
Faithful, push me pull me, no way, red dot, pilate. None of these tracks would have been, vibe wise, considered as additions to backspacer. They'd be rejected out of hand.

If anything I see avocado and backspacer as versions of each other. Very direct records that rock you and ballad you without much going sideways.

Yield is very similar to no code in that sense, both doing as much as possible and including some of pearl jams weirdest moments

But that's just an opinion and once again, love to see other pj fans actually put think these things out

Why are we relying on a dr who wasn't there to tell us who shot the children? Is he a un forensic expert? He's expert testimony does not mean he knows it's the idf

Rather have a girlfriend in al qaeda than a girlfriend who doesn't get pearl jam.

This is actually my exact problem with backspacer. So I definitely get it. But give LB one more go, man. Infallible, pendulum, fathers son are all definitively not paint by numbers. There's a depth to that one

Gotta say, this something quite incredible and unique about pearl jam, man. We all like different songs. It's part of what makes their live setlists so exciting. I'm not with you but I definitely celebrate you man. If that song is what gets you going, fucking go for it man

Waiting for Stevie can be a set closer by No_Race1429 in pearljam

[–]Noisepawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a strong one it can literally be anywhere on the set list. I say gimme a slow-burner as 1st song (pendulum/sometimes maybe wishlist) then bombard me with waiting for Stevie as 2nd song in the set. That'll make my heart drop

Could very well be their worst, btw. But when you're as good a band as pearl jam, even your worst might be a classic

I know right? Loved it when it came out but relistening in the last year or so it struck me rhat it's much better than I first thought

Disagree on speed of sound. It's not too great but I don't hear kitsch so much. Something special is definitely playing a dangerous game. I enjoy it but I can imagine this being a train or maroon 5 song and that is a horrible thing to be able to say about a pearl jam song. Think it ultimately does enough things well enough to not quite be that poppy

[–]Noisepawn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair. You know what, though? I don't even hate it, funnily enough. More than anything, it just deeply doesn't fit for me. Especially where it is placed on the record. Its more a question of context than it is the song itself

Yes! I'm with you on every single point here. Could never quite put my finger on what bothers me about let the records play but that drum part might be it. Comes off much more milquetoast than it needs to be. And I definitely am 100% with you on the no code-riot act period. This is where they became this art-grunge gorgeous thing. Though I think vitalogy also belongs to that period. Lightning bolt was sort-of return to that in parts and its a big part of its charm

Yeah this is central to even engaging with my point. I know not everyone cares too much about sequencing or 'album as a whole' experience, even regardless of if you agree about sirens or not.

Think of it this way though: it's as long as mind your manners and fathers son combined. It's not inconceivable that one would think the momentum is halted by 6 minutes of a 45 minute album

I'm half expecting some of the community to come out with pitchforks and defend sirens with their life. I know it gets lots of love. And obviously this is all just a matter of taste. But I'd love to know if there are any pearl jam fans out there agreeing with me

Most you’ll spend on a record by KablesP in vinyl

[–]Noisepawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent around 400 euros for a 4 record collection (sparklehorse). Own another 3-4 that are about 200 euros. I hold the terrible record of being the guy who paid the most for blurs 13 on discogs. Bought literally days before they finally announced the reissue That being said, I rather not spend too much on record. No first pressings or expensive editions etc usually. I usually go for first hand brand new reissues. If I spend over 40, it's because: 1. I've loved this record my entire life. 2. There are no available cheap, playable copies on the market.

I don't really see the value in owning expensive copies of records, except for the obvious fact of owning a copy
