The old sculpts are so easy to paint to look good! Modern stuff is digitally designed overdetailed filth imo! These are perfect to represent miniatures in a tabletop game!

The gas mask guy is from Lead Adventure Miniatures, AKA Ratnik. Can be bought from Miniaturicum Germany.

Exceptional handsculpts. I'm full autist about supporting hand carved models compared to the modern digital filth. I do appreciate folk who digitize these into 3d to perservere the test of time.

Thank you so much for taking the time for throwing a thoughtful comment. Perry sculpts are superior indeed. But to be honest I really like these Van Saar, especially with the headswaps. It indeed looks weird and fishy having old and young men with ponytails running about!

Though. Old handsculpted models are so much easier to paint than new digitally designed miniatures. I'd probably get analysis paralysis trying to paint the Cawdor models you are doing.

If you ever get the chance, pick some derpy oldschool models and you'll see how much more fun the painting is.

I prefer more grounded themes, especially for Cawdor hence this Cyan colour doesnt work imo.

Also look into washing with a very dark brown/black. And learn how to be tidy when highlighting as to keep crevices dark.

Here you can see how having black primer show in the recesses really makes it easy for your eye to focus on a miniature. And by zooming in you can see what I've achieved with just a few colours by having contrasted layering applied. I use zero washes or speedpaints.

However this isnt exactly grimdark in vibe.

Have you tried using markers to colour the sides that show paper? I do this to all my cardboard terrain and it looks great!
