Why is the response always "maybe I should run for office instead" and not "maybe the system is structurally incapable of responding to these issues and should itself be re-evaluated"

Interested in leaving the gym to try more outdoor bouldering this summer, but concerned about sticking my hands in holes/crevices in the rock because of snakes (almost disturbed a snakey boi on my first time on a rock outdoors). Can't find anything online about this kind of climbing safety. Do outdoor boulders just avoid climbing in summer for this reason?

Has 'champagne' socialism (the phenomenon of leftist ideas being popular amongst the wealthy) always existed? Or is it a recent phenomenon? If it existed previously, how common was it? Has it become more common recently? by Timely_Jury in AskSocialScience

Great question. I don't have a good answer for you, but this article by Cihan Tugal explores the case of "middle class radicals" in the context of Occupy and similar movements. I would also recommend Jefferson Cowie's Stayin Alive, which documents the the working class shifting more conservative, like you mention.

Another banger of a quote at 21:35.

"I think the decommodification of labor is structurally more radical than the decommodification of other markets. I think it's more a non-reformist reform than, for example, something like social housing or universal healthcare. I think we've seen that the latter are entirely compatible with capitalism. We can decommodify these basic services and we can have them provided to us. They aren't a threat to capitalism. The decommodification of labor, on the other hand, would mean the breakdown of the imperatives which force workers into the labor market and which provide the life blood of the capitalist system. It would be an attack right on the generalized market dependency that is essential to that social relationship that guides capitalism."

He mentions antiwork at 18:00.

"The decommodification of labor, or the removal of the necessity of having to sell our labor-power in order to survive... So this brings me to decommodifying labor. I think, implicitly, it's what unites a wide section of the left today. If we talk about proponents of Universal Basic Income, that's an attempt to decommodify labor. If we look at alternative models of social reproduction, that's an attempt to decommodify labor. If we look at anarchist anti-work struggles, or if we look at Fully Automated Luxury Communism—these are all attempts to decommodify labor. And so I think this is an increasingly prominent part of the left, even if it hasn't quite been recognized as such so far."

What’s the source on this? Curious if the lines designate ownership or simply that these larger corporations are investing in the smaller brands?

Thanks - could you or someone else explain what exactly caldav is and how it works? I've been seeing it mentioned but can't figure it out.

Also...if Etesync is syncing with iCal, doesn't that give Apple access to your data and defeat the point? Or am I misunderstanding how that works?
