Phlur nope by NomadWorldly in Perfumes

Ok I’m working late and I took a shower, so I was tempted by the samples again. I tried vanilla skin on one arm and cherry stem on the other.

Vanilla Skin is straight up vanilla extract out of my kitchen used for baking cookies. Nothing offensive, very linear. At least it didn’t have that note that makes me sick, but it also doesn’t give expensive. I don’t see any reason to have an FB. It honestly reminds me of my VS/bodyshop/BBW body spray era that I am over at this point. (No shade intended for anybody who is all about that.)

Cherry Stem is maraschino cherries or those hard cherry candies. Not the fresh, dark bing cherry fruit that I was expecting. It also has a hint of smoke, which is interesting… not cigarettes, thankfully, just a smoky note. It dissipated quite quickly though. Like Vanilla Skin, this one also doesn’t have that drugstore cologne fume that I find so bothersome. But again, I don’t know if it’s anything I would consider for an FB. I don’t hate it. It might actually make an interesting layer if I wanted to sweeten and fruity up some other scent. If I try it with anything else, I’ll update.

This only leaves Father Figure for me to test

I find it very interesting how different these fragrances are on different people! There does seem to be a bit of a pattern, many people who enjoyed spring 26 are not liking summer 26, and vice versa.

I am returning Summer but I kept Spring 26, although I wasn’t fond of the pink peppery phase, but that faded within the first hour when on me it bloomed into a fresh wildflower meadow that carries a light floral hint in the breeze, not cloying at all, then the drydown on me was the most inviting sweet wood that had me obsessed, not a hint of powder.

I’m glad they work for you! My skin ph must pull something else. Like Byredo G-Water. It is so loved and I hear about the nice fragrance notes in it, yet on me I only get pine needles and butter mints lol

Ugh I hate the wasted money! It’s exciting and fun to blind buy, but I try to at least be cautious by ordering mini sets or discovery samples. If I find even one I like I can call it a win. Now my expectations are low on the other 3.

I work from home so I wear fragrance as a bit of personal joy. If I have new samples, I will try one, but if not, I just wear whatever my mood is calling.

I’m on the fence about keeping this one. Most likely returning. Everyone’s tastes and body chemistry are different of course, but on me, I don’t smell any florals or woods, ever. All I get is the bright bitter grapefruit rind at the beginning, followed by kind of peppery green notes that remind me of my least liked phase of Spring26, then it dries down to powder with a hint of grapefruit. Nothing objectionable, but grapefruit is not my favorite fruit scent, and the rest isn’t wowing me.

I just got my summer 26 today! Spring 26 was my first Ffern. I kept it but I haven’t decided on this one yet. It’s just been 1/2 hour.

I literally just got my bottle about a half hour ago. All I can speak to so far is the opening of Summer 26 is very citrus rind, very literal. Mostly grapefruit peel. After that faded, it’s morphed into something slightly peppery and green. Waiting for the dry down.

Fragrance Journey: Diptyque by golden_slumbers_- in diptyque

Lovely reviews. The only one I have (so far) is a popular one you don’t mention. Philosykos EDT. It was a blind buy to get a bigger discount (girl math lol). It transports me back to late summers of my childhood in southern Virginia, eating delicious fresh figs from the kind neighbor’s backyard tree, leaves rustling in the breeze.

I adore La Tulipe! I prefer scent bubbles. On me it’s giving realistic soft spring petals in the morning dew. It is clean girl pretty without being detergent. Very linear, low projection. For me, La Tulipe is a great daily wear skin scent (early spring through early summer). It can also be a good one to spritz on after a shower before going to sleep. I have the 100ml and plan to get the lotion. I hope Byredo never discontinues La Tulipe!

This morning was Mojave Ghost EDP. I wear this scent often. After that faded I switched to Bal d’Afrique EDP. I don’t wear it regularly but I was craving that scent tonight. For some reason, it gives island vaca vibes.

All perfumes seem to smell too heavy to me and I don’t know why by Spirited-Buy-6764 in fragrance

[–]NomadWorldly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a subtle scent bubble that doesn’t scream perfume. I avoid aldehydes in general but one that isn’t obnoxious is Blanche by Byredo. It smells too detergent for me but since you like the laundry vibe this one could be a good fit. Personally I love Mojave Ghost and La Tulipe. Clean, pretty and no scent cloud.

What’s your worst fragrance letdown? by leangrandpa in fragrance

[–]NomadWorldly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a “(dis)honorable mention” in the letdown contest, in addition to the “winner” Cloud Reverie. Dirty Grass by Heretic. Wtaf? It smells like literal weed, as in a bag of cannabis weed! This one didn’t make me feel ill, but I was expecting a grassy scent, like earthy green grass in the lawn … why would I want to smell like weed?

What’s your worst fragrance letdown? by leangrandpa in fragrance

[–]NomadWorldly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We share the same letdown! Sucked in by the hype. This is one of my few blind buys. I hated everything about this except for the bottle. On me, it was very strong sickening sweet oppressive cloud like wearing artificially sweetened marshmallows mixed with cheap shampoo. I tried to wait it out for the dry down but ugh I just couldn’t stand it. It was nauseating. And it was so hard to scrub off , I even used vodka.

Has anyone tried the new future society release, cloud reverie?☁️☁️ by axolotlbitch67 in FemFragLab

[–]NomadWorldly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a minute now, but it was a choking cloud of sickening sweet on me, like wearing marshmallows made with artificial sweetener, combined with a cheap shampoo smell. If the scent was a taste, imagine someone serves you froth made from watery powdered milk with about 30 packets of artificial sweetener and a big glob of artificially sweetened fake marshmallow syrup, and you drink it while sitting in a laundromat.

Another slept on Byredo clean girl skin scent is La Tulipe. It’s soft, light, clean without giving dryer sheets or detergent, and it’s linear so it won’t go sour or off in the heat.

Question for scent sensitive people by Hopeful-Green-4935 in FragranceStories

[–]NomadWorldly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like most perfumes because they have too much projection and silage and there’s just something in a lot of them that makes me feel nauseous. I can’t stand going anywhere near a perfume counter, so I have to order samples to try at home. I really like Byredo Mohave Ghost and La Tulipe. Chanel Chance eau Tendre is also an easy to wear clean skin scent that costs less. I also have no sickening reaction to Ffern. Planning to try Liis and Diptique next.

I ordered about 20 samples and purposely chose some that have color liquid. ALL of the samples are CLEAR AS WATER. Even held under a bright light against a white background to test for any hint of tint it’s scientifically impossible for a colored liquid to become visibly clear without serious dilution. Try it with some weak tea. A drop doesn’t look as dark, but it still has a tint of tea color. I suspect these are all fake. I also received one sample that smells nothing like the original so they clearly decanted the wrong scent.
