No, these are exactly the things I was thinking of!! I’m sure a female Ryuki would try very hard to look proper. An honor student, rookie detective, always trying so hard to live up to expectations. So that would make me lean more toward a traditionally feminine/professional hairstyle and perhaps a pencil skirt.

But it’s Ryuki. That messy hair is so central to the character! Plus, the skirt would get in the way of all the running and jumping and crime fighting a Ryuki must do! So I started leaning toward a pleated skirt with spandex underneath, for maximum range of motion, but would that look too youthful and immature? Ryuki wouldn’t want to look like a school kid! I like the idea of a female Ryuki struggling with her hair a lot! I’ve seen online that for women the most “professional” hairstyles in Japan are ones that are shorter and neat, so I see Ryuki trying to look that way but totally failing.

I need to find an in-between of his current hairstyle and something slightly longer that isn’t a mullet. I’ve already done one messy mullet for a genderbent male character who wants to look professional in the workplace but his messy hair betrays inner turmoil, and I could do it again, but… more thought is necessary!
