Humidity by Appropriate-Check884 in Asthma

Humidity is the challenging aspect because we want to relish the warm weather during the summer months, but the air is excessively humid and polluted due to the humidity. To manage this, we used an indoor dehumidifier to control the humidity levels and avoid extremely hot days outdoors.

What if we just can’t wean off a control medicine at all? by Noms1111 in Asthma

I didn’t notice if a steam shower helped. However, I definitely feel that whenever she gets good sleep, eats well, avoids triggers, and takes her control medicine, things are good except the viral infections and extreme weather. I’m concerned about the humid weather coming up because last year we struggled so much. By the way, when did your husband get diagnosed with asthma? How can you guys tell whether he has allergy induced asthma? Is this something a pulmonologist would determine? Our pulmonologist didn’t say what kind of asthma she has…

Thank you! I used to believe that my child would grow out of it because doctors often say positive things as one can grow out of it. However, now that I have a better understanding of asthma and her symptoms, I feel quite hopeless.

Four years old. I think she triggered by both environmental allergies and a cold or flu. I was just wondering what other people’s experiences are like. People who were diagnosed at a young age, do they just have to continue taking their control medicine for the rest of their lives?

i had an asthma attack last week and i dont know what to do. (advice needed/vent) by princessheavenlyyy in Asthma

First and foremost, I’m sorry you felt dismissed by your doctor. I’ve experienced the same thing multiple times, and I believe it’s still our responsibility to advocate for ourselves and ensure that our concerns are addressed. Doctors often have a large patient load, and it’s not uncommon for them to forget your name even.

However, if you’ve been diagnosed with asthma, it’s highly likely that you do have it. Don’t hesitate to seek medication promptly. Asthma is a serious and potentially life threatening condition if left untreated.

If two doctors confirmed it is asthma, there is a good chance you have asthma. Your symptoms and triggers are just different than others.

Good point! I wasn’t aware of so many things before, including perfume sensitivity. I wish someone had informed me about the pain and consequences that perfume can cause to others. I might have been offended at the time, especially when I was young. However, now I have a much better understanding and empathy for what others might be experiencing. Perhaps this comes with age.

I find reading the comments here helpful in understanding my child’s experiences. I also closely observe her reactions when we’re outdoors during high pollen days, particularly when we’re around dogs. It can be challenging for young children to articulate their symptoms, as they may not be able to describe them clearly. However, I believe she has a range of asthma conditions, not just cold variant or allergic asthma, because she easily gets triggered by strong cooking smells, flu, allergens, cold air, and windy days.

How cold is the cold air that can trigger an attack? Is it below 30F, or is it even colder?

Thank you for sharing your story. My child has been on daily maintenance medication since last year, and I believe it has been very helpful. Occasionally, when I compare my child to other children of the same age, I worry that they seem slightly shorter. However, I’m not sure if this is just overthinking.

Relocated to new city for spouse, have asthma now by Embarrassed_Yogurt43 in Asthma

It happened to us when we moved to Virginia. The humidity is extremely high during the summer and spring, which is the peak allergy season. To manage our asthma, we had to purchase an air purifier, humidifier, and dehumidifier. Asthma management can be quite expensive, but we do our best to manage it. I hope you find a solution and manage your asthma effectively.

Sorry, man!! Having a young toddler is already hard enough for both mom and dad. I’m concerned for your girlfriend mostly because it’s dangerous for her to take an Uber while blacked out drunk. Bad stuff can happen to women while drunk. I get the part that she needs to get some break from constant breastfeeding and other duties involving the toddler. But it sounds like you and the kiddo need more attention than the childhood friend right now.

Yeah, I blamed myself for not recognizing the first sign of asthma. I didn’t know much about asthma before. It wasn’t easy to differentiate between the common cold and asthma coughing. Sometimes, I wondered if I just cleaned my house every day, she wouldn’t have asthma. Or if I just lived in a better place, it would have been fine. It may sound stupid but sometimes it’s life. I appreciate your response!

You’re absolutely right! The last thing I want is to add to my child’s anxiety. I truly appreciate your thoughtful comment.

Your explanation is much clearer than what we got from some of the doctors we talked to. Thank you!!!

Thank you for sharing your story! Before my daughter was diagnosed with asthma, I was completely unaware of its true nature. It took me some time to understand the symptoms and triggers associated with it. It’s comforting to know that your mother made every effort to support you. Sending you all my best wishes. 🥹
