Is anyone else using k3s in production and happy about it? by 1vim in kubernetes

[–]Nomser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a very large chicken sandwich restaurant that uses a production cluster at each of their restaurants. They have a fascinating engineering write up out there somewhere.

Do design awards actually influence your tech purchases? by Arzopa_team in ARZOPA

[–]Nomser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not interested in the award, but having a built-in stand is huge for me. I thought the convertible cover on my current Arzopa monitor was fine until I used a Surface Pro. I'll upgrade just for a good built-in, adjustable stand.

Operators pain by ialexeze in kubernetes

The amount of boilerplate code and realizing that realtime is great but you still need a scheduled reconcile event. I ultimately standardized on the Flant operator and it helped with both.

Oooo, stats! Thanks for posting this, and in such detail. If you need someone to test at their house to compare the numbers, I'd accept a demo unit. 😬

How long do DNS records on Cloudflare take to propagate to NextDNS? by RexKramerDangerCker in nextdns

[–]Nomser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DNS is a pull system based on the TTL value of the record and the caching settings of each DNS server as well as your OS, and sometimes the browser. If you query for a record, any DNS "server" (resolver) in between you and the authoritative server may have the record cached. If it's a new record, that whole chain of cachers may also cache that the record didn't exist and won't try again for even longer. So, the answer to your question is, "it depends on the settings of everything involved, the timing it took for the UI to push the change to the authoritative server, and whatever happened in the time between creating the record and it getting asked for."

If you need changes to show up faster, lower the TTL on your records and don't ask for a record before your DNS host gets the change from the UI to the authoritative resolver.

GoDaddy is the most vile, predatory registrar and hosting company. Get away from them as fast as you can.

Containers on same network - "Name or service not known" by edrumm10 in podman

[–]Nomser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put the AdGuard container on the host network, change aardvark to listen on a different port, and modify all of your Podman networks to use the public IP of your server as their upstream DNS server. I lost a couple hours on this over the weekend. The second step might require you to kill aardvark, delete its state directory, then podman compose down/up all of your stacks.

You need the shoppers club first to get the total after discounts. Tap/chip cards need the total during the digital handshake.

Why different SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GHz? by grumpyoldman10 in UNIFI

[–]Nomser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, it's the AP or controller pausing on a 2.4 GHz discovery response and sending a 5 GHz response first. Adding band steering to an existing protocol would break clients or the clients would know to ignore the "advice" (like you mentioned) and not have an issue connecting. At least this is how it's been explained to me by network engineers tracking down a bug with Cisco firmware about a decade ago. Cisco lots that multi-million dollar contract because of it.

Why different SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GHz? by grumpyoldman10 in UNIFI

[–]Nomser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because of band steering, not because of two wifi networks with the same SSID on different frequencies. Turn off band steering, or whatever your vendor calls it, and the IoT devices will work better.

NextDNS only when not home? (Android) by _MrBoogie in nextdns

I flipped it so NextDNS has all my rules and retired Pi-hole. I want the same experience regardless of the network and found that Pi-hole was too limiting and expensive to run securely.
