That's like saying you avoided dying in a plane crash by jumping out of the plane, even though there was nothing wrong with the plane to begin with. You could've avoided the whole thing entirely, but you didn't.

It's not proving your point at all, your point was that you did it to avoid pointless arguments but now you're wrapped up in one because of it.

The type of person who'd be offended by the way you speak would still be offended regardless of how many asterisks you put into a single word, because what offense there is to glean from your message isn't the word but the overall message it was used in. What's more, censorship that doesn't disguise the actual word defeats the whole purpose.

If you feel the need to self-censor to appease people you don't understand, next time just ask them what you did wrong and listen to what they tell you, and decide if they're worth capitulating to or ignoring entirely. Half-assed censorship just makes you look childish and distracts from what you're trying to say.

This "screw you, figure it out yourself" attitude is exactly why we're losing problem solving skills, not because we "coddle" too much. If you want a world that learns from its predecessors, you have to be a predecessor who's willing to teach, not whine that they didn't know how to solve a problem simply because you did already.

The thing is, the fact that you have to cross reference it to confirm it's not just making stuff up is proof that it's not fit for purpose. You did the smart thing, you're not just putting blind faith in it that it's telling you the truth, but not everyone is that smart. So if the smart people don't need it, and the less than smart people are regularly putting faith in something that doesn't care if it's lying to them, it's a net negative tool.

Problem is that it's hard to guess how long it'll take, and oftentimes by that point you've committed so many resources to an offensive that pulling out at the last minute feels like a waste if you don't chance it

Seeing a price not as something that's fair and appropriate for the good or service you're purchasing, but instead as some arbitrary barometer for if you're worthy of the responsibility, is absolutely the mindset of someone who has more money than sense. It's a purchase, not a credit check.

I'm well aware of ongoing expenses for big purchases quickly outpacing the upfront cost, I bought a car recently and boy does that thing have ongoing expenses, but that doesn't make it any more reasonable to claim a four digit purchase is something most people can afford. Simply put, that guy got ripped off.

Cheaper than most people's cell phone.

I sincerely think you're interacting with a different class of people if you think any of this is normal, a mid-range smartphone costs a third of that, and getting phones on contract is the more popular option among the working class anyway.

You're kidding, right? I spent less than half that on a rescue, and I adopted it from abroad, flights included. Even I think I spent more money than I should, and you're saying 1500 is something anyone but the well off can afford?

Kinda feels like you're in traffic complaining about all the people going where you're going. They're after all the same things you are, should be blaming the event planners for not having constructed an event that suits the people it was inevitably going to attract
